Ok what are some cheap ways to make a long travel (front) driveshaft? I can’t afford to shell out $250 or more at the moment.

Yup, been running a square PTO shaft pieced together from Tractor Supply Co. forever. One of their ends is close enough to 1 3/4” OD that it pounds into a 2” tube. My front shaft has about 18” of travel.

Cut down a junkyard shaft for a cj7. Around here you used to be able to buy them for around $25-$35. Balancing one is not that hard, weld the weights on while balancing grind excess weld off to trim balance.

the coil sprung grand cherokee front shafts have a cv type end with a long travel slip, cut the funky cv end off and weld your existing end right in. as a bonus some have a rubber boot covering said long slip.

Depending on your idea of long travel, Tatons driveline on ebay has built 3 shafts for me over the year . The front is heavy duty, much larger than stock with a heavy 7" slip spline. As of last year the front was $150 shipped. I Also bought the rear cv about a decade ago, for around $300 if i recall with the cv yolk.
