Thanks @Howard Eisenhauer for that it looks great. Every time I see your signature it makes me wonder if our willys were made in the same week. 311 vs 378 ? I’m gonna go with yes.

Flanged axle looks like this before the assembly is installed in the housing -

I didn't realize how much noise they make until you break them in a bit. I went with the aggressive clutch pack which has an extra dished plate. It's really tight. I followed the directions and drove 10 miles than made 8 figure 8 turns. Working good now.

Yes you did because I didn't post it :). It worked fantastic but I forgot to take pics of that. It looks like the weak point of the cheap puller is the threads on the shaft, I could see those not holding up to repeated use.

You need to attach slide hammer to the threads then yank it out

What did you use for lube in the differential?

I used Castrol limited slip and added a small bottle of friction modifier, can't recall the brand of that tho. The clutches are tight enough that the inside wheel will chirp a bit when turning really sharp. Although with my wide track front axle I can turn REALLY sharp. The one thing I notice now is I can no longer turn the wheels and push it around my driveway/garage, just too much resistance.

I presume the friction modifier makes the lube more "slippery"? I'm on the Powerlock learning curve....

I think the modifier does make it more lubey (made that word up). Leaving this Friday for a wheeling trip. The place we are going has some fairly technical rock sections to pick our way through, I'm looking forward to seeing how well it does.

The modifier is an additive specifically for limited slip differentials. I'm not sure if it makes the oil more slippery or if it just changes the break-away characteristic of the friction material. Maybe that's the same thing, but it's specific to the friction material in the clutch packs. Some oils say "Limited Slip Compatible" on the label, but you often need to add some friction modifier to calm down limited slip clutch packs and stop them from chattering. Ok to add more or less in response to the LSD performance on the pavement.

Good info. My LSD pavement performance could be described as mildly violent, but I only have maybe 20 miles on it so far. It for sure wants to chatter.
