What kind of lube is recommended for the parking brake cables? Something has to be able to keep them from rusting and seizing up.

Back in the day we lubed motorcycle control cables with graphite grease, warmed up and poured in at one end.

If the parking cable is the open spiral wound type, I just squirt engine oil or ATF over the outside of it, and it soaks in. Repeat regularly.

We used a product called ''DRi-Slide''years ago to lube motorcycle cables. It came in a tin drip can (like 3in1 oil).it was a very thin graphite liquid compound and was installed by removing the cable and hanging by one end so the product would drain all the way thru. Worked extremely well, the liquid would dry out leaving the graphite.
On edit: I searched for it and did not find that particular product, but I would think almost any graphite based lube that dries would be ideal if it is dry so not to attract dust and dirt.

Slather everything underneath with fluid film. It creeps into all the nooks and crannys.

For the wire-wound sheath type cables, I used to have a pump oiler with 90W gear oil. Fluid film will do the same. The oil penetrates in to keep things from getting rusty.

I’ll let you in on my dirty little secret. Mix some drain oil in the fluid film for longer life.
