I installed the fan thermal switch in a bushing on the front face of the intake on the passengers side of the engine. I need to put my temp sending unit for my gauge somewhere. Where is the right port for that?

I use one of the ports right by the Thermostat to feed my gauge and FI needs.

Curious. Do I have to have a hose or loop on the heater hose connections between the thermostat housing and the waterpump? I'm not running a water type heater-going electric, and id like to use the port at the thermostat housing for my temp sending unit as I used the port at the left front of the manifold for my fan's thermal switch. Thoughts?

And that hose barb in the manifold next to the thermostat housing is in there SNUG. Have my manifold and all painted up nice- not sure how I'm going to get it out. May cut it off flush and try to split it internally. Big vise grips had no effect on it. Not room for a pipe wrench. Weld a big nut to it?

Carb tuning, timing, and idle all set. We have a tachometer that uses a piece of reflective tape on the crank pulley for setting up our pulling tractors, and I used that to set the idle on my new V-6. Timing dialed in and locked down at 5 BTDC. I screwed a vacuum gauge in the port to the left rear of the carb and plan to just leave it there. Pulling 20" of vacuum with carb screws about 1-1/2 turns out.

My son patched 4 holes in the floor: original clutch hole, original transfer case shifter hole, original PTO lever hole, and a gap I had next to the new transfer case shifters. Got 2 of my 3 gauges hooked up and working. 40 psi Oil pressure driving, about 12 idling, and 60 warm. Temp gauge all hooked up too.

Bead blasted the wiper motors and painted them satin black. Wiring is next.

It runs and drives great down the road, has plenty of power, and sounds good!

Just put a set of those wiper motors in my CJ-6. Much better!

2 terminals on them-are they 2 speed? Which post is fast and which is slow?

On mine one is automatic park. One speed with park feature so- one is switched with the wiper switch, the other gets 12V ignition switched power. Just ground the motor and hook 12V to one terminal. You'll see what happens.

Sometimes its better to be lucky than good! I started measuring and preparing to cut down and assemble a front driveshaft. Turns out the cv shaft I had was a 1330 series, and my Dana 20 requires a 1310 cv. The big hub 44 also takes a 1310 standard u-joint on that end. Went to my local salvage yard and was digging through a rack of shafts looking for a 1310 cv I could cut down. I pulled one out. 1310 cv joint, check. 1310 standard u-joint, check. I needed 32" flange face to face-and this one was....32". Says 1993 Cherokee on the tag. Nice to know a bolt on shaft will fit my mix mosh pile of parts jeep!

We are now officially 4 wheel drive.

Been too cold here to do much, and when the weather is this nasty I'm not very motivated either. I did clean up some wiring for the winch and charging system. Need to get on with wiring the lights and signals so I can get the old girl inspected. I'm ready to drive.

Been driving / enjoying the jeep. It runs fantastic and the T-18 is a HUGE improvement over the T-86. I'm fighting a spongy brake pedal, but I'll dig into that over the weekend. I decided to install a Pertronix electronic points setup, and the first order of business was that my distributor was nasty. I bead blasted it and then gave it a coat of paint. Tonight I'll put the new system on it and re-install it. Also got a new to me, not broken alternator mount, so I ordered a chrome 110 amp single wire alternator to replace the 35 amp 3 wire I currently have on the jeep. Hoping it will arrive before the weekend so I can install it too.

Things that make you go hmmm.
As posted just previously to this one, I bead blasted and painted my distributor, installed pertronix 1165 ignition, and reinstalled it. Set idle and timing noting that my vacuum advance didn't change the timing when I plugged the vacuum line back on. Figured it was either stuck from paint or I got some media in the pot. Driving it indicated less power than before the changes were made. No biggie. I ordered a new vacuum advance and installed it tonight. When I plugged the vacuum line on to the pot, still no change in timing as indicated by my light. Turns out that the vacuum is weak from the port on the carb. I'm using the port at the lower front left of the carburetor, where it has always been hooked and previously worked fine. My vacuum gauge in the manifold port to the left and just rear of the carb shows 20". These descriptions are as I stand in front of the jeep. Why did I lose vacuum. Oh, yesterday I noticed the pcv valve was unplugged from the valve cover, so I plugged it back in.... probably unplugged it for room when I replaced the master cylinder this weekend....not sure that matters and I saw no change when I plugged and unplugged it tonight to see. Both vacuum advance units are good as they move fully with 15" according to my hand pump. Hmmm.
    Your thoughts appreciated.

I read too much... I had read about the weight of the runflats in my hummer tires robbing power and increasing braking effort, so I decided to remove them. What a job. I suspect these tires had never been broken down since new. The pics tell the story.

Thanks to this forum, I saw that a champion radiator would be a good choice, so I installed one of those in the old girl this week as well. I think the radiator was one of the last original pieces left on the Jeep! I changed my fan from a push to a pull as well. Need to get the wiring completed.....ugh.

Finally! I'm wiring. I have all of the wires from the rear run to the firewall. I have all of the wires from the headlights and turn signals run to the firewall. I have all of the wires from the steering column run to the firewall. Just need to gather the patience to terminate them all neatly and correctly. As of now, every connection has been soldered and all wires are in the fire retardant loom wrapped with electrical tape and secured with wire ties. Looking pretty good, but I have to keep that patience and vision of a neat job in the front of my mind or I'll get in a hurry and "get er done". It took forever to get myself to start on the wiring, but once I got into it, 3 evenings have gone pretty well. Relays, switches, fuses, ...I've got a ways to go...

Wiring is done except for the brake switch, and I decided to go ahead and switch to a wildwood proportioning valve with the brake switch built in. That should take care of it next week-except for the wipers, and maybe an interior light. I installed a cell phone / gps plug in spot below the dash...

Nice Job on your Build , looks like your just about there on a very nice project! and not to critique what you have already done , but in looking at this picture (and I must admit I am anal about Safety) any concerns with that fuel tank where it is in the event of getting hit from behind?

Is there a tire carrier or some other additional structure or protection around it not yet shown for that area? I don't know how you use your vehicle and although Off Road I see that location used allot, but on the street , For what it's worth, I personally would have some concern over rupture and spraying that fuel all over the place.

Most of us are still sitting on our tanks.... That's a step up in my book, but I get where you're coming from Tarry. I've always figured I'm dead if I get t-boned in an old jeep.

Sitting on it, in front of it, or having it under the jeep, I've never had an issue. Could it happen? Yep. I could be behind a Pinto and in front of an Audi with uncontrolled acceleration, and then maybe I'm toast. it's a quality tank and that tailgate is bolted shut with cage members on both sides and laterals running forward. You could mash the back of the jeep in, but I'm gonna be in bad shape from the hit before the gas gets on me. The Dana 60 combined with the relatively low stance (for 37's anyway) used up the room above the pumpkin-along with the factory hitch. I moved my seat back A LOT so the tank would be in my footspace if it were still under the seat...kinda went with what I had to work with.
