I never bothered to take the paint off of the toolbox mounted passenger seat hinges in the past, but I did today, and lo and behold they are brass! They have an engraved part number on the bottom, but I gotta say that I've never seen brass bits on an old CJ5 before.

I think I'd rather they had been made of solid gold, but I'm going to have to settle for a gold-ish brass color instead.

I'm going to get them shined up and clear coat them before I put 'em back on.

That's different, I think. I never checked but, I also never heard of this. I have a brake or clutch pedal, not sure which anymore, that I believe to be brass. Or bronze? It's broken where the pedal passes through it. No one here had ever heard of this either. Makes me wonder why and when and how many, etc., etc. Interested to hear if anyone has seen brass hinges.

Actually I've had one of those pedal arms in my possession. I posted up about this several years ago when I parted out a hacked '67 Tuxedo Park. I believe it was bronze as it was very slightly magnetic with an extremely strong magnet (due to the tin I believe) but a regular magnet would not stick or was attracted.

I've never seen or heard of brass or bronze seat brackets. Doesn't mean some weren't made but never seen it. All I've ever seen were the standard cast or stamped steel parts. Maybe aftermarket replacements? Or wartime manufacture when steel was at a premium? Please post up a pic of the bracket and showing the numbers on the piece. May shed some light.

I'd have imagined that brass and bronze were in even greater demand. But possibly the bronze parts were easier to manufacture by sub-contractors with less sophisticated equipment, during a crisis.

I can post a picture later today. It is a jeep part with a jeep part number -- Interesting that the pedal shaft and the seat hinge were both from tuxedo park jeeps -- mine was a 65 4 cyl tux. I wonder if jeep thought they'd make some of these bits brass to 'spruce' the tuxedo up a little more, but later decided that was 'jumping the shark" and they simply used up the prototype parts in production.

On the other hand, there was a small fleet of tuxedo jeeps that was used in a presidential inaguration parade. could they have made some special brass parts for those jeeps and had some parts left over that they simply consumed in normal production?
