    Hi,

I just replace my brake pedal arm and cross shaft on my 66 this weekend.

For any new person browsing this forum and considering doing this job make sure you have access to a torch since you will need to heat and bend the pedal arm so that the end line up with the hole in the floor. I also needed to move the exhaust system out of the way unless you are willing to grind the rivets that are holding the cross shaft and replace with bolts.

Its tight to work in there and I also had trouble inserting the bake master cylinder rod on the riveted pedal pin and I ended up oversizing the hole by 1/16th of an inch. I'm a newbie to Jeep - so if I manage to do this anyone can.

No more slop! + it brake better.

    Hope this help.

I'm glad you got it the way you want it. Another option although it is more involved is removing the original pivot point and replacing it with one from an M38A1. The military version is cast iron vs. the stamped steel one on the CJ and I believe it has a bronze bushing and a grease fitting on it.

I had a similar issue, When I restored this part of the Jeep I thought it would be easier to go with a Re-Pop Brake pedal, however when I went hook up the master cylinder a year later, I found the pin on the pedal was not pressed in straight. So I ordered up another one, it was some better but still didn't fit. Sooo... I got out the old one (never throw away a part when you dissemble the Jeep, you don't know what you will need when you put it back together) and put a bushing in the old pedal and reamed to fit the shaft, cleaned and painted and it works like it should. Kaiser bent the original pedal, so it fits perfectly. Bushing from Grainger, Reamers from HoBo Freight. Oh BTW I have two Re-Pop brake pedals soon to be posted in the classified

I didn't throw the old one out - so may be installing a bushing will give me a spare. I hope to dabble in there for a long time mind you
