Well i have a 78 cherokee chief mechanically she is awsoem but the body is toast. Been wanting to do a body swap of some sort for awhile.
Looked at various willys and what not, but saw a 66 commando for sale with removeable hard top. Looks like the wheelbase are not to much different. Just wondering if anyone has done this before. Also Hard to find old jeeps in my area and this one is cheap

    No, they are too different.

The Commando is more like a CJ, with the same track width and wheelbase as the CJ-6. The Cherokee is a much larger vehicle.

With some effort, you could put the axles and drivetrain of the Cherokee under the Commando. But a body swap would be near impossible.

Thought I had a picture somewhere, but I was in the process of building a Jeepster on a 68 Gladiator frame, had the body dropped on it and was going to start it but other things got in the way and that plan got scrapped. I do recall it would have involved moving the rear end up a ways and of course making room under the hood for the V8 and rad which really is not that big a deal. I say go for it :twisted: unless of course the Jeepster is in mint condition for the age then maybe not R).

Maybe find a M715 cab and put a mini bed on the back. That would be different for sure.

yeah a m715 would be cool, but have never seen one in canada. Thought about doing it with a willys truck but not sure. Not rushing into anything b ut planning for the future, like i said the jeep runs awesome, body is just a total turd, so i will have to do something in the near future, and don't want the jeep to go to waste

I've seen a cj7 body swapped on a wagonner frame thats been chopped down. So yeah, something like this is dooable.. but no means a direct swap.
