Ok so I just bought a 1 inch body lift for my 75 cj5 from performance accessories. The only problem is that it came with instructions for a 2 inch kit. I was wondering if someone whos done a 1 in bl on a 75 could give me some tips. My brother and I went at it today sayin what the heck who needs directions . And of course I was wrong.

I'm not familiar with the '75 but I put a 1" urethaine BL on my '81 and there wasn't much to it. Shouldn't be much different.

If I remember correctly,... the directions said to loosen the body bolts on one side then jack up the body on the opposite side and replace the mounts. Leave them loose and replace the remaining mounts. Then tighten all the bolts to the proper torque.(Not sure what the torque setting is)

I had to put my jack on a large block of wood and use a 2x4 on top of the jack to distribute the weight.

Remember that everything connected to the frame stays and everything connected to the body moves up. I had to loosen the breather hoses for my axles and also had to modify the (what's the word?) hole in the floor for my shift levers. Also keep an eye on the fan shroud...I've heard of people needing to lower them but I didn't need to.

If it's nothing like a 75 I'm sure someone will say so but I can't imagine it being much different.

Is the 1" kit you are using a spacer kit or is it a polyurethane mount kit? I'd like to find a 1" mount kit for mine. I think a 1" kit shouldn't mess up steering/shift linkages too much. Please let us know how it turns out.

The one I used is a Daystar urethaine "Bodylift". My rubber body mounts were all split up and needed to be replaced anyway, so I went ahead and added an inch. I hear that going to a 2" or 3" kit involves a lot more work.

I'd definitely replace the bushings while I was in there, if they were original. Thanks for the info on the kit. I've put in several body lifts, but none on a CJ. I'd say watch out for the gas tank hoses, steering shaft to header clearances, and clearance to any fan shrouds.

you'll have to drop the gas tank to get access to some of the bolts.
