Just when you think all of of the Renegade 1 background had been ironed out something surfaces to muddy up the waters. This is the first Renegade 1 in this color I've seen too. Doesn't look like it's been repainted based on the pictures provided. Wonder what happened to the original KH steel wheels. The spare looks original even down to the tire.

    Holy hell!

This does look original. Sticker on the dash and all, and it's peeling revealing blue paint.

Wish I'd had the wherewithall to buy it. Didn't go for that much.

I think the color was Sierra Blue which I think was offered on all CJ5s in 1970. The thing was taken down off the list before I could study it much, but there were things that made me think it was not a RI like the underseat gas tank, but then I also have a pic of a RI with a chrome front bumper and that one had one also. Hard to say.

Everything about this rig looks legit to me except the obvious spoked wheels.
    And such excellent condition !

Correct roll bar, spare carrier, visors, dash pad. Hard to tell, but probably correct gauges. Would be nice to have more pictures of it! Very nice!

Earlier Renegade I's had the under seat tank. I think they went to the rear tank the same time the CJ5 line did.

the chrome front bumper was the part that didn't look right.
as well as the way it's mounted to the frame horns.
that could be because of the plow/winch set-up though.
the gauges are correct, as well as all the other bolt-ons mentioned.
I've been researching the seat covers
can't find any listed with that "CJ" logo
anyone else have that type of seat fabric ?

I can barely make out the two wires that feed the extra resistor on the firewall. The resistor itself is out of the picture though. Good evidence nonetheless that it's an R1. The under the seat gas tank is OK as Zoomer stated. Yes, the seat fabric with the "CJ" logo is interesting. I vote legit R1 but would still like to see more pics. Hope the buyer jumps in at some point.

Seat covers caught my eye as unoriginal.

The rest looks right, aside from obvious wheels.

Beeser seems to agree with the wiring loom as proof.

just to add to the mix,,the embossing on the seats is exactly like the early cj-7 hard door-door-panels......if the seats are original,,i guess thats where amc got the "logo" from..if you guys havent seen it i have a pic somewhere

No doubt the owner added some personal touches in the way of Jim bling, etc. It would not surprise me if the seats were covered too with something from a later Jeep. The radio with pushbuttons and FM didn't come out until after 1970-71, although the under the dash installation looks like a Jeep accessory mounting. I also didn't see the AMC emblem on the tailgate. Not a big thing but it should be there. I can't tell for sure but it looks like there's a skid plate under the transmission.

I contacted the seller through eBay and asked if he would ask the seller to log onto EarlyCJ5 and join in this discussion.

Marski's now defunct webpage had something on it about Renegade IIs being available in Sierra Blue as I recall.

    This is interesting, very interesting.

I am the seller of the Blue Jeep Renegade 1? You guys know more about these Jeeps then I do but will give you what info I can. I know this Jeep has been owned by the same guy for the last 25 years and has been stored inside. The paint does not show any signs of ever being repainted! The guy that owned it said it is the same as he bought it. If anybody want picture of anything that may help let me know! 4rvsales@gmail.com

I am tending to believe that its original with some added "bling" also. I think the bumper is original, just maybe remounted for the plow. By one of the pictures below, the seats could be original, but I must admitt that I never saw seats like that back then. I guess that they did come with underseat tanks by the pictures below. I thought by 1970 all V-6s had back tanks:oops:
Does not surprise me the AMC logo on the back is gone as they were just glued on. Or it could be that this RI was made before the switch over to AMC. Remember that the change over was about mid 1970. It would be interesting to see a picture of the VIN tag (hint hint beham :) ). The amp and oil gages are the correct ones. We have to remember that on the RI, Jeep was doing a lot of experments and trying different things for sales ideas and I don't think that for the RI, there is a "standard list" like there was later on with the RII.
Yep I think most of it is original other then a little bling added.:)

In early '70 the fuel tank was still under the seat. My Daughter's is one of those although not a Renegade. Later '70 they went to the rear so imho can't really depend on that. This thread is really interesting. I'm learning more and more about Renegades all the time...

Nice looking Jeep! If you don't mind, I'd be interested in knowing if it has an engine oil pan skid plate, if it has frame supports over the spring hangers (see below) and if the front frame horns are boxed behind the bumper (see below also). A picture of the paint / trim tag would be great! Thank you for your willingness to share!

The seller was kind enough to send me a few more pictures. To answer Zoomer's questions; it does have the oil pan skid plate but does not have the frame reinforcements. I think the later was discussed before with the conclusion that these were not a Renegade feature. Yes, it would be interesting to see the paint/trim tag. With Sierra Blue being a standard color (that's my understanding anyway) I wonder if the paint code will show the code number assigned to it or the ubiquitous 999 found on every other R1 I've seen.

I don't know how to post pictures here. So, if anyone would like to do that I'll be more than happy to send the pictures that were sent to me by the seller.

Thanks Sparky! They should be interesting to see. I received 5 total from Burt. I'll let you know if any of those are not included in your posting.
