I’m pulling the transmission and transfer case from a 1960 CJ5 from the bottom by my self. Is it easier to remove the trans with or without the bell housing? It also has a PTO, anything special to watch for?

I pull everything as a unit including the bellhousing.

I pull the trans and transfer case with my cherry picker, and leave the bell housing on. I put a 5/16" eye bolt in the right rear trans cover bolt hole, lay my windshield down hook on with cherry picker and lower the Trans, transfer down on a rug and pull it out. works for me, Good luck

I have always separated the bellhousing from the engine, then pulled the bellhousing/trans/t-case as a unit, often still attached to the crossmember. Lower the assembly with a floor jack. Remove the shift tower after cleaning around the top and placing in neutral so you can pull it out.

I use a chain hoist attached to the spreader bars on my roll cage. I think it's easier to re-install with the bell housing attached.
