While waiting for a tool I ordered for this saga found here...Link - "Something Just Broke"

I decided to redo my front bumper. I removed the rivets from the stock bumper, bought some 4" U channel and went to work on a flat basic bumper.

Added D rings...I've always liked the look of these hanging from Jeeps.

Your bench and shop floor are too well organised and clean. What's wrong with you?
MY front bumper is stock except for the piece if 13/16 x 3" piece of grader blade welded to it. I haven't been able to bend it yet.
The rear crossmember and back bumper are both made of 4" channel on the 3B. I have yet to do any damage to them.
Maybe I should go out sometime to touch up the paint.

Better look for some d-ring isolators or they'll drive you crazy clanging and banging against the bumper on the trail

    True.

I did put some self sticky rubber cabinets stops on the bumper but your post got me thinking. I found some rubber hose and cut it to resemble the isolators but realized, my rings hang past the bumper. The clang I have is from the loose play inside the D ring bracket. I took the rubber and cut it smaller and put inside the bracket between the D ring and bumper.

What are those rings rated for?

I've seen them bend, but never break. Makes me curious.

    Like the setup!

Just be careful about how you use them. You don't have a winch yet but you may need a rescue some time, be sure they attach to both rings if possible. Jeep frames are fairly easy to bend if you do the wrong things to them.

I did a similar bumper fabrication except I used tubed steel, cut the ends at 45 degrees like the stock bumper was and welded end caps; turned out great.

I also agree about Jeep frames, the metal is thin and they bend easy. Hence the plate steel I had welded between the frame and also welded to the bumper for added strength.

I purchased similar rings to weld to my 53s bumper. I was thinking of sticking a small, high strength magnet on the bumper where the ring would normally hit and rattle to hold it in place.

The half cut rubber hose I used has been perfect.

I upgraded all the bumper bolts to grade 8 after mounting my tow bar.

You can see the rubber between the bumper and ring.

Um... I'm not getting into this dog fight. The strange thing is that I actually know where the parts are stashed, sometimes.

Sone things I know will surface in my garage. I have to make myself clean up, not fun. I work until I can't stand anymore and go back inside.
I have tried cleaning up first, then starting to work on stuff. Got a USMC military bumper (M38A1) primed in Zinc ChromateI reall that has been searched for for
more than 20 years. Don't know where it went, maybe a junk run and got thrown out? Trying to organize so I can do a little on projects as I get a chance.

    Really like that bumper.
