    Thanks, I just bought the non-locking 2K version, I hope I don't regret it.

Finally wrapped this project up. We had a little paint mishap with incompatible materials..... :banghead: ..... Never gonna see it in the end.

Latch stops made out of UHMW

    Drilled and tapped the bumper.

Final product.... picture makes it look crooked..... trust me its nice and square. :)

    Moving to the pivot end......
Travel stop to prevent the tire from hitting the body.... or car next to you.

Pull pin to prevent swinging closed when parked on an angle. The tab next to the pull pin allows it to be stowed in the up position when not needed.

Highlift jack mount. This is a JK mount from rugged ridge.

Pretty much wrapped up. He still needs to pick up an axe to mount on the drivers side.
Please ignore the :poo::poo::poo: paint job. After 2 attempts it really needed to be completely stripped and start over...... but we are running out of time and have lots to do before the rubicon.
Keep telling myself you will never notice the paint when its dusty and dirty.

    Looks Good!!

I like Ruff Stuff components. They are just solid quality for a reasonable price.

I run an ARB front and True Trac rear in my JK. It works very well off road and on. He should be more then happy with this set up.

This project is killing me..... and my uncles wallet......
We pulled the transfer case to install a slip yoke eliminator on it...... cracked the case open to find entire unit is trash. I'm not sure how it was even driving. Frozen spots in the chain, shift fork worn through, syncro dogs laying in the bottom..... Took it to a friends shop for a rebuild. He asked what transmission it had? Mac replied it's an AX15 in a 91 YJ. Wrong..... someone at some point installed a Peugeot BA10/5 transmission...... :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
Needless to say Mac was pissed..... he never looked under the jeep when he bought it..... and I really don't know YJ's....I just un bolt and bolt up new parts....
So now we have a brand new AX15 inbound from AA as well as an adapter kit.
We have crossed most things off the list and are currently waiting on the drive shaft to set pinion angle and weld spring perches on.

    So far
    DONE......Install ARB in the front.....
DONE.......D30 with 4.10 gears.... picked up a complete axle already geared to 4.10 for $100......
    DONE........Install Trutrac in the rear
DONE........ ford 8.8 axle with 4.10.... same deal, picked up an axle already geared for $100
DONE........Deaver spring under plates on the rear
U bolt flip on the front
DONE.........Slip yoke eliminator on transfer case
    DONE........Boomerang shackles
    Tie rod flip
    DONE.........Winch
DONE.........Install posi lock on front axle to eliminate vacuum disconnect
DONE.........Build spare tire carrier that will attach to the very nice pro comp bumper already on the jeep.
DONE.........Remove the 90's clown size nerf bars and install sliders.
    Install NEW AX15.......:banghead:

What years was the Peugeot used - i think it was only found behind the 6cyl? I remember discussion about it when I got my first car/jeep - an 89YJ with 4cyl - and I think we determined it was only found behind the 6cyl? Could very well be wrong. See what Novak says....

    edit - from Novak:

The Peugeot BA10/5 transmission is a five-speed, overdriven, light-duty, passenger car transmission used by AMC Jeep from 1987 until mid-1989 in the YJ Wrangler, XJ Cherokee and MJ Commanche with the AMC 258 & 4.0L I6.

The 10/5 transmission had a poor record for durability and service, and consequently had the distinction of being the transmission with the shortest production run in Jeep history. It was gradually replaced by the AX15 during the 1988 model year.

My YJ’s 231 was in the same condition but the chain had broken in half. Very simple to rebuild.

We are slowly discovering all the little surprises that the PO did.....
Jeep is titled as a 1991. Vin number matches that.
    Engine casting date is 4/16/1991
Has Peugeot 5 speed...... must have been swapped in at some point???
Np231 transfer case that was blown up.....
Has 92 and later roll bar setup..... still painted gold under the covers
The frame side shackle bushings did not have any metal sleeves..... just a bolt going through the rubber bushing.
Shackle bushings were so tight I had to use an impact to loosen them
Closer inspection reveals that floor pans have been replaced...... painted with bed liner inside and underneath
When lift kit was installed longer brake lines were not........ New lines are enroute......
At least the engine runs good...... everything else will be brand new......
Mac is hoping to run the Rubicon with us in a couple weeks.....

When I did the tie rod flip on my CJ5, I found the 1 1/2" OD kit from Ruff Stuff to be too big in diameter for the angle from the drag link tie rod end to the pitman arm. The tie rod and drag link would bind. Parts Mike sells a 1 1/4" OD, 1/4" wall set that gave me the space I needed to make it work.

I whipped up a new drag link out of .188 wall DOM. Of course it's a bump steer nightmare so I have a 4" drop pitman arm inbound. The tie rod flip is not going happen because the TRE's will not clear his wheels when flipped to the top of the knuckle. The stock tie rod appears to be pretty beefy....solid steel..... for this Rubicon trip he will carry a spare tie rod.

I also made his stock front leaf spring plates into U bolt skids. Not the fanciest..... but much better than before.

Here is where we currently sit.
We have a brand new Ax15 and retrofit package on the way from Advance Adapters. Supposed to be here by Thursday. I had a lengthy conversation with AA about the kit and it comes with literally everything. Remove old trans, transfer, bell housing and clutch.... change pilot bearing.....we will just throw a new clutch at it while were in there. Then reinstall new bellhousing, trans, swap input on transfer case and go.
    Hopefully. :waiting:

Ive been running around town in it quite a bit and I must say that I do like it. It however does not ride nearly as nice as my 5. The superlift springs are way stiffer than the OME springs in my 5.
As it sits it is 24" to the bottom of the rocker panel. I wish his tires were 33's instead of 32's...... but they are new so he'll run em.

I am now convinced that my Uncle bought this jeep from one of the devils rejects.......
Who uses 2.5" long screws to hold the removable floorboard section in place????

Next up..... engine block to bell housing dowel alignment sleeves..... apparently the PO said " Na..... we don't need those..... "

Being in a time crunch... I chose to make some out of an odd pipe nipple. They actually came out pretty good..... but WTF!!!!!
I guess I should expect this kinda stuff since the PO was dumb enough to install the BA10 in the first place...

The dowel sleeves actually came out pretty good...... But I still pissed.....

Now that we are a couple hours behind schedule..... I finally bolted the 231 up to a respectable transmission.

I'm pretty sure that this whole combination weighs less than my T-18.

Oh good looks like they sell the bell housing to replace the crummy internal hydro throw out bearing and some good hose to replace the plastic OE line.

They do sell a steel braid setup..... but they were back ordered for several weeks on the hose. I just threw a brand new pre-bled factory assembly on it.

If it’s a two piece unit I’d take some hydraulic hose, ~6 hose clamps, and brake fluid. It should hold for a few months if the line blows out. Mine was a two piece and it blew apart where it was joined together.

I took the barbie out for a test drive. Mixed town, short freeway and some 4WD. Everything works great! The new ax15 shifts a little dirty.... but I think once the gears wear together it will smooth up. The old nasty rubber shift boot wanted to put pressure on the shift cane. A quick call to Stronghold Shift Boots took care of the problem. Normally they make everything to order..... but I explained my time constraints and the color was not an option. They offered me the display model used to take the picture below. :D Same day shipping too!

I've been going over this pig with a fine tooth comb... looking for anything that might break on the Rubicon......
Well I think that this is one of those things that would leave you stranded.....

So the YJ got a new radiator, hoses and serpentine belt last night. :banghead:

And don’t you have a house to build?
