Backfiring

    Have a ‘69 CJ5 with Dauntless and HEI. I’m getting exhaust backfiring when idling down and up hill - foot off gas and clutch. If I clutch or gas it no backfiring. Any ideas? It starts right up even cold and idles great.

    Mine makes a bit of noise doing the same thing. Mine is more of a rumble and not a real backfire though.
