OK- Multi- part issue. I have a 75 CJ 5 with a 2 1/2 inches lift kit and three quarters of an inch of shackle lift and an inch of body lift. It's a fiberglass tub so I think it actually rides a little higher than that. I'm working on gaining some additional stability which I understand is a fool's errand but whatever. Right now I have 31x10.5 15's which fit fine with just the body lift and which now look like matchbox wheels after the lift and shackles. 4.10 gears. The 8 inch rims have what seems like pretty minimal backspacing as the edge of the tires are even or maybe a little inside the wheel wells. I haven't measured them for a definitive number. I then need tires. I am thinking about going to 32-33's and I'm not sure about 10.50s or 11.50s versus 12.50s. I'm thinking about the Cooper Discoverer Pro STT versus their sister Mastercraft Courser MXT and I also have a line on some new Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs for a decent price. Also trying to decide about rim width. I love to not have to buy new rims but if people think it would make a big difference to scoot out inch or so each side with better backspacing and wider rims, I could pony up and get a bit wider. So-discuss!

I am runnin 33X10.50's on my 75. 2-1/2" lift, or so. Slight rubbing. I did open the fronts up using a flat fender set up from MCE ...

Tires are KM2's, but I am replacing them next spring with KM3's as the 2's do not hook up in Moab..

Just my opinion: I like 31 inch tires on old CJ’s. Your 4.11 gears are perfect for 31 inch tires and if the tread stays inside the wheel wheel that’s a good thing. Your 8 inch wheels are also perfect for 31X10.50X 15 tires. The 33X12.50 has much more rotating mass than you have now, do you have the horsepower to spin those tires?
Conversely, when you lift a vehicle it changes the center of gravity so you should increase your backspace to compensate.

    x2.

Sometimes wider tires actually do worse in certain conditions.

I have 33x10.50x15 bfg all terrains on Wheel Vintique 15x8s. I like the size, but not enough lug for my soft ground. Cepeck makes the Extreme Country in 33x10.50x15 as well and they are reasonably priced. I like using a 10.50 width, as I don't want tires outside the flares.

I like all your tire choices. I happen to be running the 33x12.5 BFG mud terrain...with some ProComp steel "D" window 8x15 wheels that have 2.5" backspacing. I also have 2.5" springs with a very small shackle lift. They've been on for years, on and off road, and I've had zero issues. I do occasionally open up the bearings for some re-greasing, but they are not wearing excessively as near as I can tell. It's a great setup for me.

FWIW, I run Duratracs on my TJ Rubicon for years, also an excellent tire on and off road.

Many people here, including myself, have been happy with BFG T/A tires.

I have 33x10.50x15 Dick Cepek extreme country tires on my '74 plow jeep. I think I got 5 delivered for about $550. These replaced a set of 31" cracked fun countrys from the '80s. Not much road experience but good for pushing snow.

Also put 31" Dick Cepek trail countrys on my '86 CJ7 which have been great and you cant beat the price.

I recently put Ironman All Country M/T 31x10.5R15 on my CJ5. I had there 35x12.5R17 M/Ts on my JK for a couple of years before I sold it. And I have had there 265/70R17 M/Ts on my Ford E350 for a little over a year now. Ironman are made by Cooper and get good reviews.

I'm running a old(almost 20 years old)set of 33x10.50x15 BFG MT KO's. It has been a great tire. I too am looking at replacements as these are starting to crack between the lugs more than I like for road driving.
