Anyone ever heard of a 220v extension cord???

I need a 220v extension cord for my 220v 200amp welder, is there even such a thing? If there is, where would I go about getting one? Thanks guys.

 

Don't know how long you need one. I have bought one from the hardware store that is really a replacement wire for a clothes dryer. It was about 5 feet long. And you could buy some romex wire and put some plugs on it. I would be sure to get as big of wire as you can. Don't want to overload anything with a small wire.

 

I just made one out of regular NMD wire and put the ends on. Available at hardware stores and electrical supply places by the foot. Wire size depends on input amps. If you're going to drag it around a lot, use cabtire. (Black flexible cord used in extension cords)

just get some 8/3 or 6/3 sjt cable put the plugs on it you need.

 

I made a 10' out of 8/3 I believe. Put the ends on and it works great!

 

Home Depot has extention cords for generators (yellow $65 IIRC)

I think you could make one for $40. Cable and ends aren't cheap.

 

I have a 70 footer I use on my welder . I made mine from 6/3 and just bought the ends. I would just run 220 to my garage, but I live in Government housing for now. The only downfall to this is my wife cant dry clothes when I am welding. (plugs into the dryer outlet) .The ends are about 15.00 dollars each and I believe the wire is about 1.50 a foot. Mine was almost free as most supplies were donated by my work.
