    I think this is a 78-79 CJ5. However it has an intermediate rear end :? and the transmission looks like a T14 or the like. Engine was advertised as a 258 but may be a 232. The casting # between cylinders 2 and 3 is 210C04. Can anyone put a positive ID on the transmission or engine? I know the tcase is a D20.

    looks like a Bud light euipped 258
    from the photo, the dist cap and vac advance look like Motocraft, 78 and later; of course, items can be swapped around
    the ID # shows:
    2 = 1978
    10 = October
    C = not listed in my book; but 1978 should be end of 232's; if it's a 2bbl, prob a 258
    04 = day of month
    any numbers or tags on the trans cover bolts/case? 13-07-000-045 (046)
    could be a T15 behind the 258; that is possible for 78-79 models

    Carb on the engine is a Carter 2bbl....this makes me think its a 258.

    As for the tranny it has the following cast into the case.

    13-02-065-906
    W.G. DIV.

    I thought that the only transmissions available behind the 258 in the late 70's were the T-18 and the T150?

    T-150 was only behind 304 76-79 CJs
    T14 and T15 used behind 232 258
    T15 behind V8s also
    T18s 232 258 as well
    I can't decode the case number for you
    for the 78/79 model year, 3 speed would be the T15 behind 258
    too many Ts; time for Bud light!

    C = 258ci, 2V per my '77 FSM.

    T150 is stock; it'll have 8 cover bolts, and should say Tremac somewhere on it (I think). The T14/T15 will have 6 bolts and should have the BW logo cast in. BWs came with a tag under one of the cover bolts (often missing).

    FSM says that the T150 came behind all CJ engines in 1977. This jives with my memory that the last year for the Borg-Warner 3-speeds (T14, T15) in CJs was 1975. From then on it was T150 and T18 till 1980.

    <edit> I'd guess that W.G. DIV is Warner Gear Division (of Borg-Warner), so it's not a T150. It looks to me like a BW cover too. Likely a T14, since the T15 never came behind a 258 except in trucks and Wagons.

    the numbers 13-02 indicate that this tranny is a T14.

    Just to confirm what already has been said, that trans is definitely a T-14. It's the only 3 speed used by Jeep with that shape of top. They share the same bellhousing as a T-15 which is definitely a stronger 3 speed tranny, although a bit longer. Nickmil.
