    Hi,
I have what I believe to be a motorola alternator in my '68 CJ5, Dauntless V6. I think it is a motorola due to the small rectangular "wire center" on the back side. The problem is my external voltage regulator is missing. Since I bought it in this condition I'm not sure if the alt works.
    Opinion:

    1) Should I get a regulator for it? (Where would I get one?)
    or
    2) Get a newer " one wire" GM style alt with internal regulator?
Being original isn't my first priority.

No question, go for the Delco. And don't get hung up on the 1-wire issue, with only two wires needed to make it work, its no big deal. I found a used 83-amp unit on eBay for $10 plus UPS, you can get one in the local U-pull-it yard for about that price too. Good luck! ;)

when i went to theyard they didn't know what i was talking about and said to go look for it.... iwalked out the door and they had 2 on their shop floor. 15 dollars bought them both and they've been running fine since then. supposedly they were on an engine they just pulled and the buyer didn't want them. so they're out there and can be had fairly cheap

FWIW, I'm running the single wire 100A from Summit, and it works great. $89 plus shipping when I bought it....

I am about to do the same upgrade to my '74 with a 105 A alt. I have a good idea about the wiring, but I have some concerns too. How or did any of you bypass the ammeter? Did you upgrade any of your wiring and if so what parts? Finally, when operating in a 3 wire mode, how did you run the alt. light?

was told when I bought mine, to remove the middle wire coming off the plug, run both to the key on position and lastly use a small lamp on one leg between alternator and igintion key.

When I installed my alt, it was the same time i rewired everything. my wiring harness came with wires and instructions on how to wire the ammeter, so now i run both an ammeter and a volt meter
