Someone hold me to this.:contract: I've talked about it long enough.

Monday I'm calling. Taking the jump. Begging for a discount.
Plan is to go ahead and include a new small cap distributor, coil, fuel pump, intake adapter, and plug wires. I figure if I need to buy it and they can provide it then it's easier to diagnose later.

That should cover it all. If you are the junk yard scrounging type you could save some money. I'm also running a 4.3l but I only had to buy the harness and prom. The harness is good quality and labeled. Let know if I can help. Ron

I've wandered the local yards and only found these two donor cars but the operators don't know the value of anything so I'd rather buy new or refurbished with warranty from someone credible if the cost is the same. My sister is about 15min from a bunch of better places in KC but neither of us are able to get there. Back in 2010 I wanted the old 94 s10 that was rusting out but my brother got rid of it in North Dakota. That would have been a good donor since it ran and had no other future.

There's a lot to be said for buying known good parts. It saves a lot time. I had the benefit of having put a TBI 454 into my 79 dually, I had extra parts, ECM and sensors. The harness I bought has no knock sensor, EGR or emissions. Just what I wanted. Let me know if I can help. Ron

My biggest decision right now is how to get fuel to the electric pump. I'm thinking of redoing the pickup so it's more than 8 usable gallons. I am very tempted to home brew something like this so I get to the bottom without picking up air all the time.

Eventually I want to run dual tanks and my thought is for both tanks to feed this small tank either with inlet check valves and gravity or using the mechanical pump.

My truck had dual tanks, I ran a fuel pump in each tank with a selector valve and switch, it swapped the gage also. I never had a problem, but I switched tanks after each fill up. The same valve and switch could be used on a jeep. Earlier GM carb'd trucks also used switching valves, these valves are made to be on the suction side of the pump. These valves are not the same part number. I have a spare carb'd selector valve if you want to try it. Ron

    Oh my gosh.
Site says non stock engines need to call and quote.
I called in August followed up with email. Got all that lined up then bought the wife's truck and waited on funds for this. I emailed asking if there were any discounts or promotions. They replied saying no. I replied in email I would like to go forward.
    ....
    ....
    Nothing
Call at 3:50 my time turned out to be 4:50 there... ok
Call today. Receptionist says my salesman should be back soon and expect him to call in 5 to 15 min.
    An hour later... nothing
I call again and he had not done anything.
He thought I was going to enter an order online!?!?
Now he will call me back in another 5 or 10 mi.
I swear I have never had this much issue with a $900 purchase and it does not look good on them.

Ok all cleared up and ordered.
Evidently and for a decent reason my salesman missed the length of emails and thought I was ordering on line.
There are too many Joe's out there.

I have a package on it's way! :bananatool:
Driver's seat is stripped down to the metal and I have a new cover, foam, and hog rings for it.

I have a new proper plastic float to replace the suspicious medicine bottle bottle float that replaced the cork from goliath's wine bottle. the small 5 bolt sender doesn't have much room for a return line so that will be added near the filler towards the rear of the tank and of all times it has a full tank of fuel. That I think is going to be a pain to make the fuel disappear. Might justify getting the plastic jerry can I've been eyeing.
The issue is both cars are capless and I don't have enough hands. Lawn mower and generator are full. Pressure washer leaks fuel.... maybe I can get 10' of hose and use the pump to pump into the car with the funnel...

I've been reading up on billavista's plumbing and fuel cell. I wish I had a poly tank to work with but I plan to fix the fool guage and make sure my pickup tube is as close to the bottom as possible. then I will to add the return line and a rollover friendly vent since my hard top door puts the gas cap inside the body.

BillaVista.com-Fuel Cell Tech Article by BillaVista

I have Friday off so hopefully I can get the garage cleaned up pretty well and back the jeep in.

Ithe dual up idle inputs and a 600rpm hot idle. Input 1 is 300 rpm input 2 is 600 making the hot idle:
    600, 900, 1200, 1500rpm
The plan is to have the hand throttle cable now operate the switches in a clever manner...

Guess I need to figure out what bulkhead fittings and coil bracket to order. the air cleaner will need an adapter for the tbi and I'll 3d print that
    That's all for now folks!

I'm thinking about how to retrofit my early style underseat tank.
There was some reason or another that made me plug the smaller pickup tube and put a 3/8" petcock in the drain hole... I don't want to reuse that for the TBI and it leaves nothing for a return line.

    Some options I see are:
    A. Two new Bulkhead fittings in the bottom of the tank. One new vent bulkhead fitting to vent outside the cab (hardtop door covers fuel fill cap)
obviously a leak prone setup but they are not in the cabin.

    B. Three new bulkhead fittings individually drilled into the thin wall of the tank on the top.
    Doesn't seem sturdy.

    C. Drill one big hole, Make a backer plate and a cover plate with all three connections? This plate would need to be smaller than the filler neck to fish the backer into the tank or be obround and sort of bulky.
I like this the best. I'll look for fuel cell cover plate dimensions and see how it looks with respect to the seat frame.

Roll over vent valves have valves that close when fuel splashes on it. I found that with it in the top of the tank. It would plug off and not vent.
I then put another in the tank nozzle. This solved the problem. (This is a M38A1 Tank so it maybe different from yours.)

I like that a lot. Looks like you were able to pull a pump assembly off of something.

Are you doing a fuel only setup or fuel and spark?

Fuel and spark via the optional small cap Distributor.

My engine is an 85 4.3 which was the only year with a flat tappet cam, CCC quadrajet / HEI and 2 pc rear main seal.

I currently have a large cap HEI distributor and had the weirdest issues when the trailer was in tow... the trailer was enough extra load to cause the engine to torque the distributor cap against a floor pan bolt.
The brim of the distributor housing was worn down on one side by the wonky cap. Get parked and everything sat with 1/2" clearance since the cap springs pull it back down. Now it doesn't hold a cap square at all.

these pictures will show the mess I currently have.
1/8" clearance to the rear and 1/2" to the front and 1/2" between the hood and air cleaner. 1" off centerline. Transfercase is in factory location front to rear and up/down but about 1" off side to side from the old holes.

This is how the parts arrived. Everything looks new except the pcm which might have sat around unused a while and tbi looks rebuilt but recoated. Only complaint is the throttle shaft feels a bit loose.
I also feel the urge to apply the thermal paste on the distributor module since the cap needs to come off for installation.

I'm pretty happy with the quality... well I want to send an email once I measure the tbi shaft asking if it is ok before I bolt it mine.

Did I mention it's not just a label applied to each connection but a tag with notes for installation.

[IMG]20210118_122229 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

Looks like they went with a 700rpm hot idle per the notes which is ok. I am planning to use the cast iron q-jet manifold but I might switch to the aluminum dual jet manifold if it looks like it will be too tall. I just don't want to mess with the intake when it's soo cold out. It would be good to hear some thought on the manifolds I have a 2nd quadrajet intake and a fish scale I just need ambition to weight the two intakes and weight the advantages.

What I have on the grill is a dual jet intake. Basically a quadrajet without secondarys. The tbi kit has an adapter for the quadrajet intake I currently have on the engine. Thinking about it with your picture in front of me... It would make sense to just get a TBI intake if I feel the need to change the manifold.

I think this is where I will chop a hole in the tank.
I've got paint on the seat frame so tomorrow I can put the frame over and sip some tea. I plan to run the lines behind the tank and adjacent to the rear seat mount protecting it from cargo... and kids feet.
I can add a protective bracket later if needed.

If it doesn't make me warm and fuzzy then this might work.

[IMG]20210119_161349 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

I copied a sprint car fuel cell cover and printed a few layers. First layer is pilot holes to center punch everything. 2nd layer is the outer cover hole sizes.
3rd layer is the cutout and backer profile. Nifty little template but I missed one center hole. I decided this 4x6 obround opening size would be best since it allows the backer to be installed on the inside of the tank and is big enough for me to get my arm in there to clean out the shavings.
