    It don't fit...

So I bought the rubber puck, and took my crossmember off in an attempt to install the puck.

The hole in the bracket that hangs off the t-case does not line up with the oblong hole in the crossmember, so "it don't fit."

The bolt is not long enough, so even when I take the crossmember off and try to bolt the puck on "it don't fit."

Are you supposed to cut some rubber off the puck so it will fit? Even if I do that, I don't think the angle is right and the crossmember won't be able to bolt to the transmission/frame.

Here are some pictures of what I'm workin' with:

This is the oblong hole in the crossmember I'm trying to put the puck bolt through.

This is the bracket which is part of the t-case that I'm trying to attach the puck to.

This is the crossmember spacers people were talking about earlier. I've got 4 on each side.

Is this the correct mounting location?

Should I cut some of the rubber puck off (say, 1/3") ?

Do I need this puck at all?

    Any advice?

Looks like to me that you are missing a heavy steel "Z" bracket that bolts to the transfer case and then shock mount bolted to the bracket to line it up with the hole in the cross-member.

    z bracket

When I got the jeep it never had the rubber puck attached, much less this "z bracket" or shock mount.

Do you know if they still sell these?

Are there any pictures of these brackets?

    another option

What do you guys think of drilling a hole in the crossmember so that the puck will fit? :?

I could weld up some scraps into the old hole to keep the strength of the crossmember.

    Re: another option

if everything else is sorted out right (motor position, mounts , etc...) then that's exactly what I would do.......I've been through a couple motors in my cj6 and it just comes down to making it work as cleanly as possible

The hole in the crossmember must line up with the hole in the foot/tab of the transfer case.
You might have to loosen or remove the transmission mount/mount bolts to accomplish this.
Assuming the transmission mount is located in the correct holes...
The crossmember is sandwiched between the large and small mounts.
The bolt, flat washer and small mount come up under/thru the crossmember from below.
The large mount will position between the crossmember and transfer case.
The lockwasher and nut are at the top as shown.

    thanks for the picture jpflat2a.

Now I know that I was putting it on right. I also know that it won't bolt up when the crossmember is bolted to the frame or tranny. Time to fire up the torch I guess!

    New hole and mounted puck

I cut a hole in the crossmember and mounted that puck. No problems so far, its been running fine. I don't think its a stock crossmember, and later I might order one from kaiser willys (you have to call them, they're used but they are original equipment).

I also bought new nuts and bolts (grade eight) and put two nuts on each bolt. This fixed the problem.

As always, thanks for your help, the jeep is moving along!
