Looks like I have a 33" tall F134 fitting into a 29" tall CJ2a engine compartment. The Carter carb is pretty high, I read somewhere a solex would help make this F134 fit? Anyone know the link? I checked 30 threads with no luck. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

There is also a fitment issue with the engine mounts when dropping an F-head into a frame that had an L-head originally. I don't remember which way it was, but one engine has both "ears" on the engine plate going in the same direction and the other engine has one "ear" going forward, the other going rearward. You can either pull the front covers and swap the engine plate, or you'll have to do some minor fabbing to get it to bolt up to the second engine mount.

I recall that the Holley 1904 (mentioned in the CJ3B page article as the carb from a 144 cid Ford inline 6) is the most popular choice. If you search ECJ5 for "Holley 1904" you'll find a few threads.

i have not meausered the solex & the carter but my solex looks as tall if not taller than the carter. the holley tim speaks of is a very short carb, possibly when installed shorter than the valve cover

Gentlmen I appreciate your advice. W3srl, this beast already had been adapted for a 2300 ford motor so the motor mounts will be cut off, ground down and fabbed for the F134. Can't find a carborated 2.3 Ford motor, plenty of fuel injected but I wanted this to be simpler, funny how that works. Timgr, we will look at the Holley 1904 and compare to the solex.
On a differnet path to make the F134 fit perhaps when replacing back the tub I might use a 2"- 2 1/2" spacer between the tub and frame all the way around but I would have to raise the grill that high to, all in hopes to keep the Carter carb. You have giving me something to consider, what would that look like, other than making all my gear shifts, break pedal, and clutch pedals that much shorter? Just writting out loud, Thanks!

Be careful on using that high of a body lift, anything that high is going to throw off the geometry of the through-the-floor pedals and probably cause other issues as well. Looks kinda funny too IMHO, with that much daylight between the body and the frame.

If you go the Holley 1904 route it will be close, but the F-head will fit under the stock hood.

if your making your own mounts why not put the carb you want on it and fit a real short air horn. then just adjust your motor height accordingly. Or you can do a little hood scoop like mine. looks like its suposed to be there
