I'm doing a power steering conversion on my '75 CJ5 and, so far, I've run into one problem:

I bought a used pump, from an unknown year Wagoneer, complete with a pump & reservoir. I then bought a new (remanufactured) pump from NAPA for a '75 CJ5, 304 V8, turned in the Wagoneer pump for the core charge.

Everything from the Wagoneer bracketry seems to match just fine to the new CJ5 pump except for the threaded studs that attach the pump to the brackets. The thread pitch on the old Wagoneer studs doesn't match the pump. I checked the threaded holes on the pump and they are 3/8-16 TPI. The studs appear to be 3/8-18 TPI (see picture below).

Looks like I have two options. I can try to find the correct studs, or I can try to make something myself that will work.

    Any recommendations/advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I ran into this exact problem as well. I went to the junkyard and found some on a chevy caprice that worked for mine.

Great. At least I'm not the only one...do you remember what year the Caprice was?

I tink it was an early eighties. I also grabbed the pressure line adapter from the back of it, I wanted to use the o-ring style hoses instead of the flare style. My pump came form a 70's J-Truck, and my steering gearbox came from an 80's car.

I know that the o-ring hoses for the waggy pumps were metric, could it be that the studs are metric as well?

Metric is much more likely than 3/8-18 threads. Why didn't I think of that??? Thanks HeavyIron! Off to the junkyards I go.
