FWIW my early 68 had a T86 in it
My first cj5 was a 1966 Dauntless, T86. Tranny was torn to shreds when I got it. Only thing left from that tranny was the shift tower. Still have it somewhere. I'm a fan of the T14, not the best and if routinely serviced and not abused, supplies quite a long service. But would definitely prefer a T15. My favorite 3 speed.
I'm heading out tomorrow at 0300 to pick this one up. 15 hours there and 15 more coming back. Not sure about a turn and burn on this trip. I'm getting a little seasoned for those. Not that I can't do them, I just don't enjoy them as much anymore and neither does my buttock.
I think I'd do 15 there and 15 back, with a Motel 6 thrown in there somewhere
I used to love to drive long trips, as long as 1200+ miles in a day, but not usually flat towing or hauling a trailer. If hauling, usually not more than 1000 in a day. I've done those turn and burn runs up to 30 hours, with 3-4 hours sleep between.
I've gotten too old for trips like this now. I break up the long ones now to usually no more than 15-16 hours a day. Safe travels tomorrow!
I guess I am really am the ol fogie here. I used to drive straight thru on a 1000 mile trip no problems when a lot younger. Now it's 6 or 7 hours with a 1 hour lunch break in the middle and then spend the night. Life is much more pleasant when I take my time to smell the roses along the way.
Sorry - got pulled out with another back issue and shot - totally missed this.
I am still open to helping if needed - they took the other Scout out last weekend. I am just outside of Colorado Springs - I didn't see where he was.
Warlock no problem. The guy traded it for a Chevy truck anyways. Got back around 1745 tonight. Left at 0330 yesterday morning. 2200 miles. Yep, did the turn and burn with a couple meal stops. Brought my own meals to keep away from peeps. Did do a two hour snooze on rte 90 this morning. It's home safe and sound. Pictures tomorrow after I clean it up. Gonna have to start a build thread.
Build thread posted.
