if you notice in the video there are some issues with the paint on the body. Remember this post from yesterday:

Well in real life it looks like this:
[IMG]20221209_130348 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

And you know the funny thing is the passenger side is 1/2" shorter than the driver side. The floor under the driver and passenger is still made from recycled road signs.

You, my favorite reader. You might have noticed that I have a slight obsession with 3d printing jeeps of extended nature.

[IMG]20221201_060312 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

And I have to have my model exact enough to replicate...
[IMG]20221209_130128 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

What if I've had something stuck in my head.
Every single day a recurring thought.

    Over two years now...
This won't be a hard core rig.
The plan is power steering, sm465, dana 30, front locker. 117" wheelbase. Cage. Soft top. Hard top :twist:
Take the family to the pool, take half on the Rubicon with room for gear, Colorado trails and just keeping up with locker stockers. Just doing that with a few more kids and a very large cooler.

hopfully not look like dirt everyday episode 110

But a rover 110, the jeep overlook, or the jeep Africa.

All in favor, say aye.
    Those opposed... :booo:

Big question: Can you finish the project while you still need it?

Way ahead of you. And being the 2nd go around it's a matter of getting the measurements right.

The hard top will be interesting
I've slacked a little in it's updates. It's disassembled and in the basement.
Making that 3' longer is gonna be fun.

I'll have to build a cage at some point, but moving the rollbar with the bed will do for now. I got the top bow pockets from Nick's jeep and the plan is to build 12ga corner guards with the sockets on the guard. The front main bow will move forward to hold the cj5 half cab dimensions. The middle bows will be at the normal location on the wheel well.
I do intend on making a m170 style stretcher door opening. It won't be stretched 16" over the m170 but closer to 8 or 12" more. The hard top will have a rear hinged door that closes beneath the passenger door like an extended cab truck. The 3rd door latching top and bottom. The soft top will be a bit more complicated with the bow splitting the opening. I'll have to copy my door frame but with a sharp corner the same as a m170. The 3rd door for a soft top will most likely latch onto a tab on the bow for front and rear door making them independent, we will see.

This. I’ve got it in my head also to cut my CJ in half for a stretch. I’d stretch just the frame though and use or duplicate something along the lines of a Bantam trailer for a bed.

When these vehicles get old enough and parts get mixed and matched nothing is sacred. I’m also in the vote of cutting it up into what’s useful for you.

More importantly... can I finish the project in time to and afford to make the rubicon, moab, or Colorado 2023?

How motivated are you and will the better half allow the time and money commitment needed to get it done.

She's been lurking here for a while :ninja:
We've spitballed ideas of getting a wrangler or JT but with 4 kids 2 adults you would still need major alterations and honestly i'ld be disappointed in power with soo much weight . Cutting the cj5 would cost several hundred once said and done but I will tow it with the Expedition at 15mpg with far greater power and comfort and without another car payment.

I have a DJ frame to sacrifice. The side panels and floor will be the cost of scrap from work and that includes the profile bends.
For the rear driveshaft I'll use a 36" non telescoping extension and carrier bearing for belly clearance.
Any new seats will be full back with headrest for the carseats.

There is always the 392 option, which, by everything I've read, isn't lacking much in the power department. It's just $$$$$$$$$ and even crappier mileage. I don't think adding a third row seat for kids in an Unlimited JK or JL would be too big a deal. For adults, a bigger problem for sure. Unless they are vertically challenged.

I agree extending a JKU wouldn't be terrible but then my daily driver would be a JKU...

Anywho, back to the regularly scheduled boredom of small tasks that needed done.

Oil leak, loose oil galley plug. Like free spinning loose. Medium strength thread locker applied and torqued to one ubba dubba.

Next was pulling the tail light wires out of the frame and sent thru the wheelhouse.
Half of these wires just need replaced from exposure and age.

Then I always hated the transfercase vent.
Fortunately it was less than finger tight and easily replaced. The hose will eventually go to the engine side of the firewall, hopefully tied into a snorkel

I already removed the mechanical oil pressure guage out of concern it was leaking at the motor. Unfortunately the f-134 oil pressure sender doesn't clear the intake so it got an extension and elbow. The chalk gray is leftover high temp paint to help find the leaks.

I test fit an old master cylinder and found more grinding that needs done. (No picture)

Then I started looking at the steering and exhaust clearance to notice how the brake master cylinder, pedal arm, and oil filter lines really limit the approach. That said I think I can make it work by keeping as much column on the engine side as possible. Turning the exhaust manifold inward to parallel the block. Use a standard 4.3 oil filter but try to leave room for future hard oil lines. The front filter needs to move for the pump to mount. The box will be low and go under the crossmember and be fairly far from the frame rail.

I also measured up how much room there is in the garage after the stretch. Looks like I'll have a foot front and rear. So that stretched JKU won't fit if I tried.

    Ya'll think two 5' sections, a 5' X 3' section for the new floor and a 5' X 34" is enough to start?
