Why are early jeep windshield frames often painted black?

    Thanks!

Because that's the color they had from the factory?

The body-color windshields didn't start until 1974 (mid year?). There are some pictures in the manual that show an earlier model with a body-color windshield frame, but I don't think we've seen one in real life.

Wonder what color mine was originally. Was USBP. I painted it black cuz it was easy and I'd seen some like that. Little overspray on the seal = no big deal! :D

After I rolled my '83 this summer I painted the replacement ws frame black for the "old school" look. It was also easier than matching it to the red paint on the tub. I like the looks of the black frame.

Why? I wonder if it was not because it is easier to inventory when everything is one color instead of body color. Imagine building red Jeeps one day( yes I know that's not exactly how it is done) and you run out of red Jeep windshield frames, you can't go grab a few frames from the blue Jeep parts bin.
