I tried a search and looked at tons of stuff but couldn't find the one thing I needed. On my regulator I have a small gray wire that runs into the tub under the dash and wondered if anybody knows where it goes or what it does? I have pics but not sure if they'll help in this case due to the PO chopping everything he could in an attempt to act smart.[IMG]

The wire in question is on the top arm terminal and runs across the firewall and into the tub.

There should be a wire from the regulator armature terminal to the "generator" light on the instrument cluster, the other wire from the light goes to the ignition switch "ignition" terminal. What happens is that when the generator isn't producing power the armature is effectively at ground potential, power from the ignition switch flows through the light to the armature & it lights up. When the generator is producing full power the arm terminal is at full potential, same voltage that's applied to the battery & ignition switch so no juice flows & the light is off.

Here's a wiring diagram, top to bottom the regulator is armature, field & battery. The fourth wire to the mounting tap is a ground jumper to equalize the ground potential betwen the genny & regulator- things will work without it but they work better with.

Thanks for the info. I looked at several diagrams but none of them mentioned the wire to the light. The rest of it I can do myself but that wire had me stumped.
