After 5 years of setting in the carport I started working on my 66 CJ5. I put a battery in it primed the carb and she started right up.
I drove her down the dirt road I live on just to find out there are NO brakes. The left front wheel cyl blew out. No big deal I was only going About 10 MPH.
Anyway I noticed the left rear wheel was wobbling very bad. I put the rear axle on jack stands and turned the rear tires by hand and sure enough the axle is bent. This is what I found when I pulled the hub off the axle.

Now I need to find an axle.

Or source a good used 19 spline shaft from any model of CJ only circa late 1956 through mid 1970

I plan to keep this one as close to "stock" as I can. I plan on driving it on weekends and maybe in parades.
I just need to find someone in north Georgia that has changed their axles and still has the old ones.

I have two good taper 44 axle shaft keys if you need them.

I'm sure I could use one of them.
I don't plan on taking the other side apart. It shows no issues so I'll let it alone.
When I find an axle, then I get to replace all the brakes, and see if I can find what is wrong with the Carter carb.
It runs great sometimes and then it'll run rich others.

Put an ad in the classifieds (that's why it's there) is where I'd start. Also look in the sticky post at the top of the section "where to buy parts". There is also a vendors listing. R&P, J&W, Herm, Border Parts, PartsMike, Prine Jeep Parts, the list goes on. I'd try the classifieds first. You may find one more local to you and possibly cheaper. You will need an axle shaft, key, hub (flange), axle bearing and race (cone and cup), and seal. You will need to shim the new axle for endplay.
Personally I'd pull the flange on the other side and inspect as it may be damaged as well.
When you install the hub back on the axle, slide the flange on, then insert the key. If you don't the key has a tendency to ride up the keyway in the shaft and blowing out the side of the hub. Seen it done way too many times.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been watching the classifieds. I have not yet posted a want ad, which I need to do.
I appreciate the advice on how to install the hub and key as I have never done that.
