In pross of rebuilding my 2G. Took everything apart but I can't get the ball under the pump piston spring to come out. I have soaked it w/PB Blaster and injeced 120lb air bursts in galley behind ball with no results. My air nozzle fits tight against the galley opening so I know I am getting a full 120lb air behind the ball. Any suggestions?? Wasn't wanting to pull lead plug at casting passage but if that the only way, I will have to. What would I do then, try driving a stiff wire in to dislodge the ball? Just how important is it for this ball to be movable? Tnx. Walt.

Broke out the old Jeep Service Manual. Can't remember a thing from my carb rebuild. If I understand what ball you are refering to, it look like the accelerator pump draws fuel into the chamber through that check valve on the up stroke. Was the accelerator pump working before you remove the carb from the Jeep? Maybe air preasure and a little taping on the carb at the same time would work????????

Thanks for your response. Did the tap tap while hitting with 120lb air after 3 day soak in PB Blaster with no results. Finally drilled a small hole in bottom of carb directly in-line with ball location and inserted a piece of stiff wire and finally was able to drive the ball out. I then found out it was the big ball in there instead of the small ball. To make it worse, the springs were reversed. The spring (heavy) was under the acc pump which drove the big ball hard into the casting and jammed it. The smaller Lighter spring (was on the acc pump) is now down under the pump (pump return spring) and fits down into the channel holding the small ball in place. Assembled carb and adjusted and working great. By the way the acc pump had worked before. After setting for past two years the pump dried out and quit working (reason for kitting) otherwise I probably would not have noticed the problem. Should be complete with my frame-off this summer (66 Tux) so will see if it drives better then. Tnx Walt. Pic shows drilled hole w/small wire used to drive out ball. plugged hole back w/JB Weld.

Walt just to give you some reinsurance, about 10 years ago I had the same problem. Only difference was my problem was cause by me not have driven my jeep for about 9 months, not a spring problem. I did the small drill hole thing and patched the hole back up and it has worked great every sense with no leaks or anything.:coffee:

Great WYOMIKE. I was a bit concerned about drilling and then filling as it directly into the gas chamber and was worried it might leak after a time. Will keep eye on it tho. Tnx Walt.
