I would assume you are referencing the CJ-5.
Check the website for "Peter DeBella". There is an M38A1 shown. The rear panel is very similar to that one.
On the inside of the CJ-5 there are 2 "L" shaped channel brackets.
I have seen many attempts to replace the tailgate with a panel. Few have duplicated the original style.

There's a decent picture in this thread: http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59196

This could be a civilian or M38A1 tub, but the back panel is representative. The civilian bodies did not have the footman loops, and it looks like the owner changed the tire mount, but the location of the tire is basically correct. Aside from the actual back panel, the main feature is the stamped steel reinforcing bar across the back.

Timgrs picture looks like an M38A1, but the rear of the tub looks the same as my 74. The Renegade package had no tailgate. I believe only the standard model CJ5 had the tailgate in the intermediate years. If you have two glove boxes, you have an M38A1. I dont think the civilian models came with duel glove boxes, I may be mistaken?
Also look to see that there is no weld beads on the back. It should be one solid piece, save the seams and spotwelds on the back side of the tub.
