    hello,
my engine is running rich.grey smoke from the exhaust.and smells semi-burned gasoline.
solex carb, points new, plugs new, condeser new, fuel press 3psi at the carb.cleaned air filter,140psi at the compression test :):) with just the 3 at 132.and the screw on carb at 1+1/2 turn
    what else to do?
just replaced the plugs made one mile and they are total black.no oil signs.tried one test without filter and the same problem.the smoke appears from the idle to all.at a lot more on acceleration.the only thing that im not sure is the timing.popping very little from the exhaust.
    what else to do?:?:?:?:?:?

    thanks
    George

I would start by removeing the air horn and looking down the carb to see if you see fuel dribbling into the throat while it is idling. I am not familiar with Solex carbs but it is possible the float is too high or stuck allowing the fuel bowl to over fill and spill out the vents into the intake. If the issue was only at idle then I would say recheck the mixture screws, but I believe you tried to say it happens at all speeds.

Are you sure the choke isn't closed? The lever on the side for the choke portion should be forward for the choke to be open. It doesn't have a butterfly at the top so you can't look down the throat and tell anything about the choke.

No choke on a Solex. it does have a start valve. Make sure that its in the correct postion. Sounds like you need to learn how to adjust a carb, do you have a vac guage?

yes i have a vacuum gauge.
the only problem that i see is that i have disconnected the pcv and tap the inlet in the manifold.
i'm thinking if i will use the pcv again the aount of air that enters from there will lean the mixture??

    solve it!!!:):):):):):):):):):):)R)R)R)R)R):):):):)

the problem was in the pcv valve system.when i tapped the manifold hole.now i connected again and no problem.th exhaust goes back to normal.i have to adjust the timing with a gun because i have some popping and will be fine.
