Anyone have experience with Lokar's universal Emergency ( Parking ) Brake cables?

They look like they would work fine, the big difference is that the brake end uses a ferrel and nut to attach to the backing plate instead of the spring-type retainer.

Don't have experiance with the e-brake but had there shifter/linkage on a 53 F100....they make quality stuff
Seems like it would work. Why that over the stock type cables?

Yes, I have a Lokar e-brake setup. They are quality parts. Just pick the type of end that fits your brakes and you'll need to cut the length to fit once you get it. Use a chop saw for a clean cut of the cable and the cable housing. Mine are Ford disc brakes. One thing I did was replace the adjustment bolt with a longer one to give me more adjustment range.

    Sorry, this is a bit rambling . . .

When I bought this Jeep a PO had just cut the E-brake off at the axles! So I needed new E-brake anyway.

I started off looking for the factory replacements. They cost about the same as the Lokar ones) I ordered two sets of Omix replacements over the last 6 weeks. One was too short and the other different at the non-brake end from the original! Furthermore, the replacement cable that goes from the foot pedal to the connector was too short in both sets that I ordered as well. (I'm thinking that it's just a Intermediate CJ thing!)

Then I got thinking that I've always hated the foot pedal and I saw a build where they used the Lokar floor mounted E-brake handle on the outside of the driver's seat and really liked the look.

    I thought . . .
You are sitting on some hill at 100% grade . . . One foot is on the clutch . . . One foots on the brake and you really want to put on the E-brake! Wouldn't it be better to have the hand brake? (I'm working right now at plumbing a line lock in as well).

Anyway, that's why! I'll need to fab up a bracket on the floor or on the driver's seat bracket, but I don't think it will be too tough to make it work and still look nice.

LOL. Thanks! Don't let my web site make you think I know anything more about Jeeps than I really do.
Most of my builds have been by trial and error, no real mechanical knowledge. The Lokar cable was one of the few things that went in easy.

The nice thing about the Lokar is the cables are plenty long enough, so it works well if your putting things in custom locations. Mock up your routing and then cut to fit.

    Well I ordered them . . .
Best price I could find way from RJay's Speed Shop. (~$30 less than most and $40 less than some!)
I'll let you know how they work out!

I used them on my 67 and they worked out great. I have the intermediate foot brake and the Ford Lokar and everything went together perfect. Mine is an auto but I like your idea of using the e-brake to hold you in difficult situations.

    One of these . . .

I plan on mounting it to the seat frame on the outside of the drivers seat.

Lokar has a boot for it as well.

Very nice.. to me, it looks like that hand brake is designed to be bolted under the floor, and the chrome handle would stick though a hole in the floor.

    I think you are right . . .
I'm thinking of making a bracket our of some 3" angle that will attach to my seat bracket (which is just 2 pieces of square tube that goes from door to door). I'll cut a hole in it the appropriate size and mount the brake handle. Have the cable come up through the floor at the step.

But one thing I have learned is ya can't make the final plan till ya got the parts in yer hands!

Didn't get to work on them but the Lokar cables arrived end of last week . . .

Here they are compared to the old (original) cable.

Nice new cables ! are they a direct fit to your ebrake stuff at the drums ? Any update ? Figure out where to cut the hole for the leveler ?

One outer cable mounted to the backing plate. Fit is good. Now I need to decide where to mount it . . .
Once I am happy with where and how long the outer tube needs to be I'll need to cut it and then replace the cable and decide how long it needs to be.

Because I want to mount the brake handle on the door side of the driver's seat the passenger side will be longer than the drivers side.

    Pics ASAP!

Why do u want the leveler to be on the left side of the drivers seat ? Would that make it difficult to get in and out of the jeep when the leveler is pulled up ?

I am wondering about your new cables.. The outer cable can be shortened and then the nut/end is tightened on the end of the outer cable ? How do you shorten the inner cable ?
