Bought new tail light(s). Wiring was real flakie so I strung in new stuff to the light switch (harness is later). My question is which connections on the light switch do the wires connect to. I'm looking at 2 at the end of the switch and 3 on the mid section of the card on the switch. I just need to get the tail/stop lite working the register it for the road.

    Thanks,
    Rit

The light switch only handles the headlights and parking lights. The older style switches will turn the parking lights on, then the headlights MINUS the front parking lights. I tied all my parking lights to the terminal that controls the rear parking lights so that I get front parking lights even when the headlights are on. Not sure which terminals are which anymore but you can check them with a simple volt meter. As I recall, the main +12V in goes to the terminal furthest away from the knob (this should be a rectangular circuit breaker with 2 terminals on it). The rear parking lights go to the terminal nearest the knob, front parking lights the next terminal away, and the headlights on the 3rd terminal. Double check this FIRST though!!

Now, the brake lights are a bit more complicated. +12V goes to the brake light switch (on mine that switch is screwed into the body of the master cylinder). From there it runs to the turn signal switch. The turn signal switch will internally switch the brake lights in or out depending on whether or not you have the turn signals on. See my web site for a diagram:

The hot lead to the brake light switch does come from the end post on the headlight switch (it's hot when the key is on), but you can use any 12v hot source. the other lead from the bls goes to the turn signal switch.

Thanks for the help. I think most of my problem is trying to do lights by myself. I'd better call the wife in for help (to look at lights & meter). :D

I only have a single tail light but next year, when I can get a harness, I'll have another lite and signals.

ooops. didn't realize it was a one light system. don't really know how they are wired. But, I suspect you can run a hot lead to the brakelight switch and the other lead from it directly to the light. (top or bright filament). and run the tail lights to the bottom filament. no turn signals simplifies it a great deal, as they interupt the brake light.
