secure the hood.

hello,
just want to ask what you do to secure your hood from opening.
a lot of time and money inside to be so easy to opened from every punk and make a damage.

My hood is all original, never needed a lock or anything. I guess alot will depend on where you live. You could always use hood pins and lock them.

Think JC whitney had some [key] through the grille locks. Not sure if they were only for newer jeeps or not. (YJ and later)

 

lostdawg (on here) has a locking safety latch on his intermediate. might be able to rig up something similar on an early CJ. I've seen them in a few different catalogs.

 

I use a Garand and 1911 to keep my hood closed. They also double as a parking brake.

 

Attach one end of a wire to the hood and the other end to a gernade pin that's been zip tied to the grill.

Buy good insurance in the event of "theft".

 

Bolt a chain to the hood innerstructure, then wrap it around something down below and padlock.

Personally, I'd move if you are having to deal with that...

 

I have a chain on the hood. Then wrap it around the frame and padlock it. Except I don't have it bolted. The end link is cut to make a hook, then it's hooked to the innersturcture of the hood. That way it is easy to remove.

 

My buddy has a 92 Caddy with a spring loaded hood ornament. After it was stolen once, he wired it up to a Ford spark coil. When the thief tips the ornament to remove it, he makes contact and ZAP. I'm not sure this is a good idea though. Anybody with a mentality to steal hood ornaments also has a "get even" attitude and you never know what he'll do next. FWIW.
