ok so i can get a really good deal on an odd fire 231 v6. i need to know what parts will swap over from my 225, and what parts i need to buy?
its supposed to be for a 1976 buick regal, no FI or anything.

    Oil pan?
intake manifold? i know that 231 heads are slightly different,
    distributer?
    valve covers?
    oil pump?
    feul pump?

the motor im buying doesnt have a flywheel, where can i get one that will work for it?
will a 225 flywheel work? i know they are a ton heavier, and i think they have a different bolt pattern.
i read somwhere that the 225 flywheel will only work with a 231 evenfire? why is that?

    Pretty much.

The 225 flywheel will work with an odd fire 231. Not with an even fire unless you have it re-balanced to the 225 specs. Most people prefer the heavy 225 flywheel for the rotating mass for trail running. If the 231 is a '76 then it should be an odd fire with HEI. Keep it. No sure on the pan and valve covers but they might. Wouldn't mess with a used oil pump. Get a new one unless yours is perfect. fuel pump should work fine but the inlet/outlets may be different and may have a return line fitting in the pump.

Depends on the year. Print the Casting numbers from the tech section and take them with you so you can be sure its an oddfire. You definitely want to be clear what your looking at before you buy.

    Oil pan?
    Yes.

intake manifold? i know that 231 heads are slightly different,

    Yes, if its oddfire.

    distributer?

    Yes, if its oddfire.

    valve covers?
    Yes.

    oil pump?
    Yes

    feul pump?
    Yes.

My block is a 75-76 oddfire, with matching heads and a 225 intake. I run a Mallory Dual Point Distributor, have a stock fuel pump, Holley Valve Covers and a Motorcraft 2100 carb. Timing cover and oil pump are from a 225. Oil pan is aftermarket 231.

alright thanks vanguard! yea im sure its an odd fire, my friend works at advance autoparts, and i can get a reman for around 900 bucks, with a waranty and everything.

also will i notice a drop in power? i heard that the 231 is only rated and 105 hp? i guess it probably be better than a worn 225, any difference?

anyone know what a 231 is rated at HP and torque wise? and at what RPM's?
the 225 is rated at 160 hp, but thats at like 4500 rpm, has anyone honestly had their 225 reved that high??? lol

My motor hasn't been dyno'd but it's whole lot more power than the F-Head it replaced. It's plenty enough to break all four wheels loose.

They changed the hp rating procedure so comparing the rating system for the 225 and the 231 is comparing apples and oranges. My 231 even fire was chassis dyno'd at 220 hp at the wheels with some minor upgrades. More than enough at the wheels for a small Jeep.

I had my old 225 revved higher than that. In fact, I used to shift it at around 6800 rpm, but it wasn't exactly "stock". In fact, it wasn't really streetable......
Course that's why a lightened wrist pin broke and wiped out the motor....

are the 231 oddfire's balanced with the flywheel from the factory? should i have my 225 flywheel balanced before i put it on? or is it impossible to balance somthing that heavy?
