I'm struggling with how to replace the cross member / skid plate / transmission support on my '73 CJ5 that I am swapping a SM465-Dana 300 behind and AMC 360. My early calculations looked as if I could clock the 300 to horizontal (but that still remains to be seen). Still I'd like to keep things as high as possible. I have a 3 inch body lift (I know) that helps out a bit there as well.

I'd love to hear, even better see, how those of you that have been down this road have fab'd your cross members.

    Thank!

I shaved about two inches off the bottom of the tranny. Just piece of flat stock welded to the crossmember tube for the adapter foot to mount to. Frame is boxed, crossmember is welded in.

I was surprised to see no skid plate there?!?

Any one else care to share their cross members / skid plate fabrication? :)

I'd love to see how you did it!

Won't be for a few more weeks - I will be building one for the SM465 swap. Plan is to use MORE mounts and 1" Square stock. I can also use 1.5 or 2" round as I have dies for those as well.
