CJ5s, did any have 16" rims?

Have been wondering about this. I've lots of pickup tires that are 225-235/16, would work great on my CJ5, some D/E load rated. Did they make any factory steel rims compatible with these tires? Maybe ran 7.00-7.50/16?

Sure, lots of them! I'd wager there were probably more 16" rims on the early CJ's than 15". I don't know when 15's became an option, but the 16's were there first. 6.00x16 and 7.00x16 tires. Stock 16" rims are getting hard to find though, too many went to the scrapyards or got changed out for other wheels and junked.

would a 235/85 16 tire fit these rims?
I picked up a few stock cj 16" rims with 7.50-16 tires on them. they were very similiar in dimensions to the 235/85 16 tires on my ford pickup. my concern is that the 235 tire may be too wide for the 4.5" wide cj rims.
also, these rims used a tube. could i use these rims with a modern tubeless tire, or do these rims require a tube regardless of what tire is used?

You can run tubes in tubeless rim. make sure you use the rubber flap, or you have a lot of flats.

 

Is it safe to run a tube in a modern tubeless radial tire?

They used to say not to, issues with friction and heat, as I recall.
