stock 360, four barrel or two barrel?

Hi, I have a 1974 CJ5 with a tired 304 in front of a NP435 tied to a Dana 20 with a TeraLow kit. Jeep has 3.73s and rolls on 32s. I use it for hunting and exploring. I enjoy driving it quietly just off idle.
I recently picked up a stock 74 360 with a four barrel. I am planning to install this engine into my jeep while retaining the stock single exhaust. Should I use the four barrel or the two barrel off my 304?
    TIA.

Um, sorry for the smart-alecky reply.

Which 4V is it? The spread-bore 4350 can be troublesome and the base pattern is unique (not like the Quadrajet). The earlier carb was a 4300 (?) square-bore, which is also ok. Still, if it doesn't leak, it's a good off-road carburetor. The 2100/2150 2V is also a good off-road carburetor, easy to rebuild, and generally trouble free and cheap to service.

Depends on what you want. I don't see a lot of advantage to the 2V manifold unless you want to run TBI (I would).

I'd leave the 4 barrel on it if it works good. Why go through the trouble of swapping everything around. If you're just driving it easily, you likely won't use the secondaries anyway, but they'll be there if you need them. On a lot of 4 barrels (not all) the primaries are usually pretty small, which is a good thing in your case. The small venturis produce a high air velocity which gives you a really good throttle response.

The 360 is supposed to be the original engine out of a 74 truck. The build code on the valve cover however has a date of 2/11/75. It does have a 4300 on it. The 2100 on my 304 has a recent rebuild. I know the 4300 will need a rebuild at minimum. I guess if the 4300 performed as well at low rpms as the 2100, I would go with the 4300 because of the reserve power. What I don't want to do is end up with a carb that floods out on hills or is overly sensitive to altitude changes. I live at 2700 feet, but day trips are from sea level to 9500 feet. TBI is an interesting thought. Are you saying that the 2v manifold is the correct one for a TBI conversion?

I'm not sure that the 2V manifold would have any performance advantage, but AFAIK the readily available TBI throttle bodies (from SBCs for instance) are 2V. I expect you'd need an adapter for any TB, but the Holley pattern would likey be easier.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The primaries on a four barrel work much better than a two barrel. It's just a matter of being disciplined enough to stay out of the secondaries. You can even disconnect the secondaries if you want.
