2nd Busted Wheel Cylinder

Couple months ago I replaced a busted wheel cylinder on the left rear. Went today to have my tires balanced and the dang wheel cylinder is leaking again. What would cause me to blow this brand new wheel cylinder again? Some kind of problem with a proportioning valve maybe?

 

was the replacement an Omix part? or did you use a brake hone to repair the cylinder with new cup seals?

 

I vote defective off shore part I've had several from the flaps go bad outta the box

 

I bought the wheel cylinder from Napa. Not sure who manufactured it. I do know that the wheel cylinder was on backwards. By that I mean the PO had a right side cylinder on the left side. since the brake line was bent to fit that cylinder, with the port on the opposite side I replaced it with another right side cylinder. Would that make a difference? They appeared identical except for the location of the port.

 

Did that put the bleeder on the bottom? If so, it would make it near impossible to bleed the wheel cylinder. You can buy rebuild kits, but I agree with Sterician

 

No I don't think so. I can't recall the configuration difference at the moment.

I guess I'll just swap out that wheel cylinder with a new one and see what happens.

 

Shouldn't change the position of the bleeder......swapping side to side. I've run into the problem several times where people put them on the wrong side.

I'd also vote for defective parts. Most of the stuff is made or remanufactured somewhere else and quality is often compromised. It's a crap shoot anymore.

Do you have older pads and has the drum been turned? Sometimes this will cause the seal come out too far from the cylinder bore and leak. Even if everything is "in range" the tolerance stacking can get the package out of spec. And you will have that problem everytime you change the cylinder most likely.
