Pretty sure that's an np435 and not even remotely worthy of a grand.

I believe you are correct. I hardly glanced at it, my only thought was it may not be worth posting because of being a 4 to 1 first gear.

Good first in the 435 but you can still trip over them in the yards. I'd go about half that for the combo if it passed the sniff test with the covers off.

Yeah I'm pretty sure all NP435's had a granny first. They're great transmissions, the drawback I see here is that adapter is much longer than a T18 version.

The NP 435 is a great trans for a Jeep. The T18’s get a lot of attention since Jeep actually used them for a while. While it is true the T18 makes for the shortest combination of trans and adapter, the 435’s case is actually an inch shorter than the T18. The 435 adapter is 3.5” but winds up only being 2.5” longer than the T18 combo. That’s hardly a deal breaker, even in a SWB CJ.
So why is the 435 so great? Well for one thing,
It has the second slowest first gear of all the popular granny boxes; slower than the T18 and the SM 465. It’s 1st gear is a 6.69, second only to the SM420’s 7:1. And, it’s second gear is slower than the T18 as well at a 3.34 as opposed to the T18’s 3.09. Now some may say that’s splitting hairs but when you’re building for best crawl ratio every little bit makes a difference. The slower 2nd gear of the 435 is also beneficial on the street, making it a little easier taking off from a dead stop. IMO the 435 shifts smoother as well. I took a T18 out of my 75 26 yrs. ago to put a 435 in and have never regretted it.
Even though I love the 420 in my flattie the 435 is probably my overall fav.
To each his own; just my personal preference
    FWIW,
    Mike

I've never had a 435 in a Jeep but I've had several in Ford pickups, they're damn near bulletproof.
    My son's Willys pickup is getting a 435 & BW1356 tcase from an 85 F150.

Having good alternative transmission ideas with others experience is great. My SM420 is a fine transmission, but they are all really old.

I've got an NP435 /transfer case down under the workbench. Its out of a Dodge Ramcharger, and its got a long adater between the two components. Mine has PTO ports on both sides of the case. I've never seen that feature before. This one is slated for a Willys Wagon.
