    No. Needs to fit on a tempatrol (fan clutch) and will have a big center hole. The description does not match the picture.

    This is the tempatrol you need - RockAuto

    I don't have a book that covers a 1972 CJ-5, so I can't point to an exact listing. I do have a book that covers a '72 Wagoneer with a 304, and another that covers a '74 CJ-5 with a 304. Both call for the above tempatrol 998761 and 7-blade fan 994277 WHDC. I believe the seller is showing a 5356091 fan with 7 flexible blades, which was used on a CJ WHDC '76-78. It would probably work ok, if it's not too large in diam for the fan shroud.

    I'd show you what's on my Jeep, but I think it's from some other vehicle. The fan my 304 came with is too large in diam for the aftermarket fan shroud. I bought the shroud and tried to install it. Maybe somebody else could take a pic of their fan and shroud and measure the diameter?

    jp magazine had an article that had part numbers for a jaguar clutch for the fan that was thinner than a stock one if clearance is an issue.

    Is that meant for me? I don't think a thinner tempatrol would help. The circle of the aftermarket shroud is smaller in diameter than the fan I have.

    Back to the photos in post#22, I see you have the key for the accessory spare tire lock. I still have my original lock and key. As mentioned, the Flex-a-Lite fan is not original, but they funcioned pretty well at pulling air at low rpm. They did tend to "wear" and can throw chunks of blades when they get old.

    My 72 CJ5 must be close to your early. My heater controls are on a hanging bracket. I have been doing a complete frame off restore. I took a bunch of pictures at each stage of tear down, but this CJ had been so molested over the years most of the wiring was cut or burned away. I would send a pic of the back of my dash if you want. All wiring is how it was when I got it, but it is a rats nest like you have never seen. I think if something shorted, they just cut the wire or let it melt off. It is difficult finding diagrams for this so I might get the TSM off RockAuto like Timgr informed. I am beginning to go back together with it now.

    Thanks for the offer,I got some good pics from Gordon’s original 72 I am curious as to what is your vin number and how early yours is. Mine has some odd features like offset Dana 44

    My original VIN sticker is hard to read but here it is. I did order new ones from VexyDesigns and they look brand new and original.

    Yours is even earlier than mine. What is your engine code. Also what is your month of productionMine is sept but engine was build on August 23 1971 with cylinder head cast on August 2 I have never known a earlier cj5 1972 than mine. Does yours have offset d44. My rear end has a production date of March 1971 with 4.88 gears Is yours a renegade.

    Well, your posts made me look into mine. Looks like mine is earlier still. My '72 serial number is 01681. I don't have the VIN sticker anymore but this VIN number is stamped into the frame rail: J2F835TE01681.

    I assume from research that I've done, the engine type, tranny, etc. don't affect the serial number? Mine serial number with a 232 engine will still be in sequence with CJ5s that had a 304 V8. Is this correct?

    The engine code tells me the engine was manufactured in Aug. 3, 1971. From my serial number, I am assuming the assembly came shortly thereafter.

    Mine has the heater controls on the hanging plastic bracket and the centered D44 with 3.73 gears.

    Right, all the Jeeps were numbered as they came off the line. The serial number is total production for 1972 so far; CJs, trucks, Wagoneers, everything.

    The factory produces lots of vehicles in late summer, enough to provide all the dealerships with stock of the new models at the big reveal in September. Since the CJ and Commando were really new for 1972, I'd guess that a large majority of the production in those months was these new models.

    Heater controls on the plastic bracket was not used until 1973. Has to be a later addition by the owner. I thought all the '72s came with the Utility Truck type controls, with chrome knobs and steel bracket under the dash. Seeing the controls coming through the dash on the Plum Renegade is surprising.

    This was on mine. Lots of cracks on the back. The switches definitely look after market.
