you can clear single stage but it will need to be sanded with 1200 or finer paper first.

Lots of progress this weekend. It's starting to come together and look like a Jeep again.

Got the fan mounted in preparation for mounting the grill.

    And the welting came in.

The welting kit came with a set of rivets. But luckily I managed to retain my original clips. They look like they may have been painted the same color as the Jeep. Did they color match these clips originally, or were they just a shade of red the has weathered over time to look like it may have been orange?

Welting mounted. Not to difficult. I used an awl to poke a hole through the welting, then pressed the clip through the welting and grill.

Test mounted the spare tire carrier, and set the spare on. I think it will be ok. Any larger and I suspect it would rip the rear off the tub.

And finally mounted the fenders and hood. I used rope calking where the fenders mount against the tub and grill. Some managed to squeeze out, so I'll need to go back and see if I can scrape it out or push out back in. Other wise I could not be happier.

Thats good to know. I'm going to first try to do some buffing to see if it's deep or just on the surface. If it's all the way through, I may think about clearing over it. A nice reminder of the power of nature.

I'm looking into tires. Like you, I like the BF Goodrich All Terrains. What size are those and what lift do you have? They look really good.

If I remember correctly the BFG's are 32 x 10.5 mounted on Kelsey Hayes 15 x 8 rims. The lift is a 2.5 in SkyJacker - picked them up at the All Breads Jeep Show form Quadratec. They offered a discount at the show, and waved shipping costs.

Slowly getting back to the Jeep. Not much accomplished over the weekend, but the Jeep can see again.

The headlight rings cleaned up very well with a little seal wool and NeverDull.

Also got the VIN and Special Order tag reattached. Seeing as it's starting to look like a Jeep again, I thought I should give her, her identity back.

Thanks. You have no idea how bad. It's almost 2 years since I started, missed the target date of getting it back on the road last spring by a lot. Heres to looking forward to Spring 2013.

Great build, just spent last couple hours reading every post and you have done a beautiful job! My heart sank when I saw the pic of the shelf leaned against the tarp covered body....ugh...you must have been freaking out when you saw that?!
Glad you all made it through the storm Ok. I was born in Red Bank, NJ and still have family in NJ that mostly only had to deal with the 2 weeks of being without power after the storm.

    Thanks jjmat3!

By the time I got to the workshop, and saw the shelf against the Jeep I was already a bit num. And with amount of devastation in the area, this was not something I was particularly focused on. Now almost 2 months later it doesn't bother me. Come spring I'll take a good look at it out in the sun and make the determination on what to do.

Someone suggested clearing over the scratch and keeping it as a reminder - I'm kind of liking the idea. :?

Progress marches on, albeit slowly at times.

To recap the last two weekends - steering, wires and noise!

Ordered a brand new to me - refurbished - steering box from my local NAPPA. If you need a new box, I would highly recommend you find a NAPPA. Ended up costing me $179 (the core charge is $176). The paint leaves a lot to be desired, but it's smooth and the rebuild quality looks good. Time will tell.

Also managed to blast, test, paint and mount the horn. It's the small things.

Then it was on to electrical. I must say I'm a little disappointed in the LivveWires. I ordered the AMC kit, but no matter how I arranged the wires they looked messy. And I couldn't keep them organized, and away from things. So back in the bag they went. I guess they will end up on the fore sale section at some point. My biggest gripe is that the left side wires were to short to run in front of the oil filler. Having them between the oil fill and the carb is a little to crowded for me.

So it was off with the LiveWires, and on with a custom length kit from ACCEL. I only ended up needing to trim 3 of the wires to make the runs I was looking for. And I think they came out looking much better. Assembling the HEI tips was not to hard, but getting the boot on was a bit difficult - all I can say is use lots of dielectric grease.

I'll finish it up next weekend, with a bracket I made form the old coil bracket to hold the wire harness up off the intake manifold on the right side. Not sure how to handle the left side yet, but I'll work something out.

New wire harness comes in this week. I went with a Rebel Wire 9+3 circuit. They are made in the U.S.A, and get very good reviews for both quality and customer service on the hot rod forums. I'll let you know.

    That looks really good Brett.

I see how you made that work. You have the #1 terminal pointing towards the carb. I have mine pointing toward the left forward corner of the engine compartment. Hmmmm.....:? Wonder if I should change mine?

I haven't started my engine yet so I can't say if mine needs adjusting.

I used DUI wires also. It took a lot of work to make them fit nice. My number 1 is at the 3 o'clock position if you are standing in front of the jeep. I also had to use the 7 wire for 2 and vise versa. I thought about taking the numbers off but I never have. The quality and looks of the wires are great but the length leaves a bit to be desired. It should not take 4 plus hours to get a set of freakin wires to fit. I do love my DUI though.

I'm blaming my late weekend update on the cold - dam it's cold.

Started installing the wiring harness last weekend. You would think there's a lot of room under the Cj dash. Not so much when you figure in the hanging pedals, parking brake, cowl duck, glove box and heater box. Ended up mounting the fuse box between the parking brake and hanging pedals. Just snuff space to keep the panel out of the way of my clutch foot. Now it's on to sorting and running the wires. I used a 1/4" plastic spacer between the firewall and the fuse box so the wires wouldn't be pressed up against the fire wall.

Did a test with the wire conduit to see how it would look - very clean. The forward harness - lights, etc.. will run along the edge of the fender and touch in nicely.

Relays for the headlights mounted just behind the grill. Probably could have mounted them higher, but I'm not planning on doing any deep water crossings. She's had a ruff first 40 years, the next 40 should be much less strenuous.

Also got the plug wire bracket installed. Happy with the look.

On another note, Sigmund and I stopped by Carton Brewing the other day - a little sampling and picked up a new growler. They are a good bunch and welcome dogs in the tasting room.

Only natural that a German dog would be eyeballing my beer so intently.

No work this coming weekend - to cold. I can heat the tent when it's above 40. But when it falls below 20 all I do is burn diesel and wast oil. But I can't get the temperature up high enough to get comfortable.

Totally agree with your assessment of the Live Wires. I was not happy with the lengths of supposedly "custom fit" plug wires, especially considering the cost. If/when I need to replace them I'll check out the Accels. Your build is looking great.
