If you don't mind too much I might pick your brain a little in the future. I'm embarking on almost the same build. 63 CJ6 on a TJ frame. Yours is looking great. I hope to be there in the next few years.

No Problem, tell you anything you want to know. I have a google album of everything I have done. Mistakes and all. I don't know if the link in this tread works they changed it once and it's been a while that I put it up.

Put the Jeep on jack stands and pulled the tires off. The 35 are just to BIG for the Jeep. No loss though I have 2 others that are on 35s so I will put them on one of those. 32x11.50 BFG KM3's on order supposed to have shipped Friday.

New tires arrived Wednesday brought them home and installed them on the bead locks. Thursday took them down to be balanced and brought them home put them on the Jeep and set it on the ground.

Now that I am done with tires, I installed the front fender flares.

While working on this I didn't pay attention to where I had the glass for the hard top sitting and while working I splatted grinding cutting slag on the windows. so yesterday I took the windows down to the glass shop to get new ones made and have them tinted. They will call when ready and I will take the Jeep down to get them installed.

Ugh. Doncha hate the one step forward two steps back of projects sometimes?

Anyway - I think the smaller tires will work well.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago on this project that it was just going to be a fact of life. Me, one not knowing what I was doing and two Murphy's Law.

That looks sooooo good. I WILL follow in your footsteps someday and complete a similar project. I'm planning on giving my son my cj5 someday, so it might end up being a 2035 project, but ya gotta plan these things out!

Latest pictures, took it out of the shop and moved to the garage and drove it around the neighborhood for a bit. Drove pretty well. Still waiting on the glass.

The rear fenders are home built. The front are commercial I don't remember which brand, Bushwacker, Xeon both make them, maybe others.

Been trying to work out some bugs. Driving it back from the glass shop it was showing that it was getting hot. Got home let it cool and started checking things out. Found out what ever wire I had chose to provide power to the fan relay was not doing the job. It was an unused wire in the Painless harness that I thought would work but I was wrong and I don't remember what it was. The fan side was already on the battery through a circuit breaker. Now the relay is feed from the battery so now I have thermo control of the fan. So warmed it up again and it still showed it was getting hot. Let it cool down checked for air in the system, had a bit, filled it up and tried again. Still air. So I changed the upper hose arrangement to eliminate the up and over configuration I had.

    To this....

To eliminate the "loop" effect. Heated it up again and it still getting hot. I got my laser temp gun out and started taking temp in all the places and found very little temp rise in the upper hose. Back to the parts store and bought another thermostat and installed it. Tried again and this time the needle settled in the middle gauge and stayed there and the fan began to cycle on and off maintaining the temp. So one bug GONE.

After I did all the stuff above, I ran it again and found that the over heating was not cured. It would slowly creep up and over heat. I did a few more things. I pulled the senor of the gauge in the Speedo out of the block and installed a mechanical gauge ran it and the mechanical gauge show it indeed was getting hot. Still needed a place to but the speedo gauge sensor back. I found a 1 in. spacer the goes between the thermostat neck and the manifold that has 2 ports for sensors etc. Installed it, installed the speedo sensor in it. Then it dawned on me that the fan was not really coming on until it was to hot so I revisited where that sensor was installed. Figure with the issue I was have it need a better location. So I moved it to the second port on the thermostat spacer. Now it sees exactly the same water flow as the speedo sensor. Tried it again and it warmed up and the fan came one while the speedo needle was mid way. I let run for some time and the needle stayed in the middle it did not start to creep up. Took it for a test drive drove around the neighbor hood for about a 1/2 hour and the needle never moved above the middle and the Mechanical gauge never got hit the 200 Deg. mark on the gauge. I even got the Jeep up to 50mph on this drive. Drove pretty good.

Here is the spacer installed on the manifold with both sensors.
    20210318_094450.jpgresized.jpg

The Fan sensor was installed in the upper hose in the brass tee. This was not working.
    20210318_094507.jpgresized.jpg

The tee is there for heater recirc. When I installed the motor the first time it did not have second port for the heater. The original vehicle had it return to a port on the radiator. So I plumed it in this way. Thought it might be a good place for the fan sensor as well....NOT! To far out of the coolant loop to be good.
    20210307_095144.jpgresized.jpg

I may revisit the upper hose and the tee and rework for better flow, use what I could get my hands.

I use to put the sensor on the heater hose that goes to the heater. So you have the constant circulation of coolant.

I think with the double tee I got it just too far out of the flow.
