So, a couple of weeks ago I saw this trailer advertised on CL for $300. I thought "no way is that a functional unit". Most (if you can find them) around here are completely rusted out and needing MAJOR repairs of the tub and frame. This one was in Gloucester, Va about 70 miles from my house and off the beaten path. The wife and I decided to make a run up there to "take a look". I loaded my truck with tools, a floor jack, WD-40 and PB Blaster along with two spare NDCC tires wheels "just in case"...

The story is the trailer had been in the same family since the mid 60's, although the title was dated 1978. Used on a piece of property and covered or stored after use. Multiple layers of paint indicate attempts at keeping the rust at bay, which appears to have worked. The floor has been replaced with a flat sheet of plate (.120?) and re-enforced underneath; very well executed. Still has the original Bantam ID plate on the tub.

Sold; I couldn't get my wallet open fast enough!!

After spraying the landing leg release pin with WD-40, checking the Fulton Hitch and that the lug nuts would actually loosen up (just in case), I aired the tires to 25 psi and headed home... Stopped every 10 miles or so for the first 40 to check tires and wheel hub temps (no issues noted) and pressed the final 30 miles without incident. The tires in the pictures are what I swapped on at home; the ones I towed it home with have too much checking for continued use.

I'm happy NOT to have a science project on my hands (like the last one!) and should be able to easily have this one ready for the summer by spring. I'm leaving the patina as-is... In the short term; bearing replacement, lights/ wiring and call it ready. May in-fact add a RTT in the future, but time will tell...

Regardless, another one has been saved!

WELL worth the drive! I'd have been all over that for three bills. Nice.

Just trimmed the herd a bit and let my other trailer go down the road... Hated to do it but it was the right thing to do. Swapped the red wheels and (questionable) tires on to it and watched it go away within 72 hours of posting on CL. Sold it to a guy 5 miles away.

Road legal with lights and plate. Taught my son a bit about simple wiring and light bracket fab along the way. A good day ended with a quick 30 mile on-road test.
