Amongst the things sacrificed this weekend was my back seat. Which is probably OK cause anybody who sat in it gets a major case of butt-ache. I know it'll never be the lap of luxury back there, but what have you guys done to make or buy a useable back seat?

The current seat I have basically has foam over plywood. I'm thinking if I build a frame and put some seat springs under it that'll help some. I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks

I'm using a Steel Horse seat. I also use it as a third seat in my Explorer. Don't think Steel Horse is in business any more though.

I have a trimmed down (and full size depending on what I want) school bus seat as well as a regular seat from a CJ 5 that I use.

Repro of the original 2A back seat frame, covered with black vinyl cusions from Beachwood Canvas. Very spendy, and very uncomfortable. :(

Sounds like exactly what I want to avoid ;)

Great thing about taking the wife wheeling - I told her I was looking at back seats and getting something more comfortable, but the cheapest I've found was like $150. "Is that all - do it!"

    Thanks for the input guys.

I purchased an original full back on ebay and the kids love it. They say it beats sitting on a rug or blanket. I removed the rear seat catches from the floor and disassembled them. They were so full of dirt and rust that they would not even budge. Now they are spring loaded like new. The seat just slides under the two metal straps and snap right in place.

Never used the one in the 2A but in the YJ (if anybody sits there) I throw a bean-bag chair back there. I don't have a rear seat in either Jeeps.

Can't see how I could get anyone properly strapped in that way for a trail ride. Probably pretty comfy tho. :D

I just have a F-script GPW rear seat in the back of my M38. It came with the jeep, so I'm not complaining..........I never sit back there anyways.
