I think what we’ve learned from this thread is that most folks think that axle wrap is just very unlikely here.

Sounds too simple and obvious, but you might pull the drive shaft and inspect the U joints. How long have they been in there? What brand are they? Cheapo branded u joints, most brands even, are not to be trusted. It used to be that Dana Spicer U joints were the only ones to trust.

I have definitely had a bad U joint or two that seemed fine until I pulled the shaft to carefully inspect and then discovered a tiny amount of play that caused a vibration. And you have 3 of them.

Have you considered approaching the “reputable shop” that did the install for an opinion?

the DS is less than 6 months old. Adam’s driveshaft is well known and respected here in Vegas. After I put more grease in the DS it got better. As another person has suggested I’m going to look into motor and trans mounts

Didn’t mean to imply that they are not a competent shop…sorry if it came off that way. Quite the opposite actually.

I mean if they are familiar with your rig and you trust their work, why not ask for an opinion?…that’s all. Driveline and especially custom 4x4 shops, see this stuff all the time and sometimes know the nuances.

Curious what you find out. Good luck with it.

So... have you lubed all driveline parts and points - Front and rear UJs, front and rear splines, spring shackles... Might as well do all the steering links too while your hands are greasy. Pedals and levers, etc. Check your FSM for details. You do have an FSM, right?

Your jeep will feel happier and so will you. You might even spot other trouble before it starts.

People used to modern cars may forget these vintage vehicles were designed to have routine and frequent lubrication service. It's how they know that we love them.

Just a thought here........... How's your clutch ?
It seems to work fine. Why do you ask

Perhaps because oil on a clutch, or other things, can cause a clutch to judder when being engaged, especially under heavy load.

When you wrote "under acceleration," did you actually mean during take-off?

No, as I’m cruising along, if I accelerate moderately, i get a slight vibration all over…i ordered motor and transmission mounts to make sure they aren’t a problem. The motor mounts do have some pretty pronounced cracks in them

Verified your ignition timing, including the advance/retard functions?

Don't forget about the torque mount assembly off the trans mount.

something i read on another forum one time with a similar vibration issue was a new driveshaft had been shipped with no grease on the slip joint, and pumping grease in only filled a few splines and then filled the end cavity. the fix was to pull the joint apart and pack grease into ALL the splines. the fact that greasing it made it 30% better makes me almost 100% sure thats your problem.

Well, I’m going to drag you through more of my quest to vanquish vibrations. Replaced motor and trans mounts. Who knew how much those affect the ride quality !!! The trans mount had a pretty good crack in it and the pass side motor mount was crushed. Even before I drove it, I knew there was a difference. It felt solid, like I’ve never felt. The vibration on acceleration is virtually gone. Woo hoo, now all that is left is a constant, low intensity vibration. I’m back and forth between it being the tires, KO3 @ around 23 or so psi and oddly enough, maybe the exhaust. The exhaust is a year or so old, magnaflow muffler, don't know which but its 18X8, which exits the rear. The vibration seems to follow speed and seems to be divided between tires and exhaust, in that when I let off the gas, some of the vibration goes away, and some is still there changing with speed. To be clear, the vibration is somewhat of a “rumble” vibration. But overall, I’m getting closer. Oh, an exhaust question…hard to put into print, but my exhaust has kind of a motor boat sound instead of a crisp sound, if that makes any sense. It’s 2 1/2”

did you take the driveshaft apart and grease it yet? it's a simple enough task, should be doable in an hour or so.

Glad the change in transmission mounts helped. Sounds like you have addressed the more obvious vibration sources.

One item I noted on my 75 is a low vibration similar to what you describe after rebuilding the rearend. I replaced all the bearings and seals and rebuilt the TracLok limited slip differential. I did not replace the ring and pinion. (Maybe I should have . . .) My pattern on the ring and pinion wasn't the best but I decided to live with it. I now notice a very low vibration at certain speeds. Passengers don't seem to notice it, but I feel it.

I don't feel like tearing it apart again and it doesn't affect the performance or comfort of the Jeep. I only drive it occasionally but will need to address the cause at some point in time. Doug

I’m thinking the R&P are ok, as they looked nearly new, and while turning the tires while in the air, didn’t see any slop
