Wanting a tall narrow tire set-up for my '69 Cj5. I have a line on some 16 x 4 1/2" NOS steel wheels in nice condition. The CJ is mostly original with drum brakes all around.

Anyone have experience with these wheels or know of fitment concerns?

If they are the KelseyHayes, that is what came on my 58 and work fine. Bare in mind they do not have a safety bead so in theory require tube (radial or otherwise). Not sure what year they came out with the bead.

I too have been running the 215 85 for a year tubeless with no issues. I was just giving the standard disclosure.

235-85-16 was factory size on my older (1997) F250. They fit on the factory 16 x 7 rims. So, a 4.5 wide rim isn't necessary but may be why others haven't had problems with the tires coming off the bead. An old 6 or 7" wide rim with no safety bead may result in the tire wanting to come off the wheel.

I have 235/85r16 tubeless tires on 16x6 wheels with no bead. I have not had any issue with them while wheeling at 12 psi. Also some tire shops may not want to mount tires that size on wheels narrower than 6".
