The machine we had with the slant 6 was a pain to burp air out of. It does need little antifreeze in it for storage as a rust inhibitor and to keep the seals pliable.

I think it's an issue with the head or manifolds not bubbling out.

Well, whatever it was, it's doing fine, perhaps the installation of the thermostat helped and antifreeze~. I was explaining to dozerJim~ after a nice heat cycle, I pushed the engine run stand to an area and noticed three streams of antifreeze coming from 3 freeze/casting plugs, not making it to the floor and sadly don't remember seeing any sealant around the casting plugs ,the machine shop installed them. Then going to remove the oil pan as there is an oil drip coming down from the rear of the oil pan. about a drip every minute or so. I don't mind working on these issues in the nice shop vs later on when it's in the car~ that would not be fun. I was so meticulous when installing the rear main and oil pan!!:madwife:
So, I'm headed that way into the heated super garage :D, crank up Roy Orbison. I do believe I'm becoming a Slant 6 authority~:whistle:, kidding, just seams like this engine has been eating me up from Day 1.
    So, I'll be back;)

Nothing like doing things over again~ actually wasn't too bad to tear back down. Would it be better to use a thicker casting plugs? Haven't ordered plugs yet. I have oil pan off and going to pull the rear main seal bracket off in a bit. I may be able to re-use the intake gasket or not~ what's another 50 bucks

Gary is/was kind of insisting I go over there and "talk" with them, Me- "oh man". Now they didn't build the engine, just machine work~ Supposed to be a high class, been in business for 30 years machine shop. I just feel my engine does run ok(right now), but I don't think I'd use them again. I do wonder if they hot tanked it the head/block~ was still pretty rusty inside:(

Out of three engine builds I've done, the machine shops buggered up two. Who can you trust?

Correction, a fourth was a Harley guy who drank Budweiser and worked from a one-car garage at his home. That motor ran like a watch and never leaked a drop in the ten years I owned it.

A few reasons I chose G&G performance was he was close by, been in business for 30+ years, would sit and listen about what I wanted to achieve, trusted my measurements taken to increase compression, The place is super clean(where the do the machine work). I'm sure there is something else! lol When I was leaving before I picked up the parts, I had asked him to install the pistons, not that I couldn't do it, just didn't want to do it, he forgot! lol It's all behind me now~ the engine does run, just like to not have to take it apart again
    Now to make hamburgers;)

I'm confused- did they or didn't they replace the plugs? If they did the owner probably wants to know there's an issue.

Good morning Howard~ yes, they did replace the plugs~ looking back, I wish they had left them out and I would have installed them. I have parts coming, you know how it is, hurry up and wait.

    'Morn'n :)

In that case I'd let the owner know something is wrong with the plugs, could prevent it happening to someone else.

This about as close to you guys being here~ as messy as my garage is right now, I Love it. This is my "clean room", AC/heat, big screen TV~ gee, I'm spoiled! [IMG]

When it's time again to run the engine, I just open the smaller garage door and pipe the exhaust out there;)

“Messy”? That’s just a workplace in use. I could show you a messy garage but I don’t want to be embarrass myself. BTW, “garage”? That’s no garage, that’s a cavern! And you have outstanding skill. My envy level on a scale of 1 to 10 is about 20.

Remind us again why you ever bother to leave the garage and go into the house? Oh that's right, you have to go potty. So build a bathroom out there and you can tell Gary, "you're on your own now". :D:lol:

OK, I think I'm pretty much done with the engine except for things that pop up! It sounds much better in person. I hear a valve ticking, I'll take care of that later;) So, now we're getting prepared for the freeze coming up over the next few days, after that's over, I can wait get onto the body work of the Dart! ;)

    Edited: cleaning up shop
A nice little bundle of parts, takes up a lot less room when all put together~ I've just been cleaning the shop;)

Hi gang;) not much has been going on since I "finished" the slant 6. So, I've been working on the garage again, cleaning, re-organizing, etc. Then we had the mini-ice age, so the cold air hasn't been exciting.
So, come Monday, I hope to get back sanding the body and fixin stuff. It'll be a slow go, but I'm in no hurry. But funny to think the engine, trans, rear axle will be a "simple" install when the day comes, then of course have a drive shaft made.
As for the slant 6 engine, it was a challenge with exciting things to throw me a curve ball, but I overcame the obstacles:D:D:rofl::rofl:
