Had a little time, went ahead and made a spot in my AC'd area, much better!. I know the engine has been into, the pistons are .30 over, I guess that's what's on top of the piston, the pistons are shiny looking from the crankcase side. Timing chain and gears look beefy.

A friend from the Forabodies forum is going to help me figure out how much to take off the block and head mating surfaces to boost compression. Wouldn't most machine shops know how to figure this out~ say, "I want X compression, make it happen?

FWIW, which isn't much, I used to play with a lot of slant six's. We would take .090 off of the head and nothing off of the block, the local machine shop takes .120 off the head for engines going to propane. Always used an unleaded head like the one you have with a real good valve job and port matched the head and manifolds. Used a two-barrel intake with a carb from a '68 318. Would cut a chunk out of the exhaust manifold between #3 exhaust port and the heat riser, plug the ends and add an outlet to the front half to run dual exhaust, I always thought it did good things for the mid-range power and they sound fantastic. A couple of them ended up with a hole drilled and tapped in the rear of the head for a pipe fitting to remove some of the hot coolant, it's a long way to the front. Electronic ignition is good. Only had a couple of them with hydraulic lifters, I prefer the solids.

Thank you Arnold, and thank you for your experiences;) I've been talking to a guy to help me figure out how much to take off the heads~ not there yet, but I have my engine torn down somewhat, head is off, basically a long block. If you got away with .090, that would be nice, but Zach my friend insists I do it his way! lol Anyway, my 2 barrel setup should be in the mail at the end of the day tomorrow along with some other things. I may take a ride to the machine shop and see what they may offer without me deciphering! lol

What did the six come out of? Was it an emissions motor? If so I'd bee looking at higher compression pistons.

If you are going to fool with it at all, buy this, it's a reprint of the same one I've got somewhere. Chrysler already spent a lot of time and money researching their high performance stuff. https://www.ebay.com/itm/126345135130?itmmeta=01J1P5WVRYX5P6J21R144XJ2CV&hash=item1d6ac1c41a:g:DtoAAOSwEO1iBBdI&itmprp=enc:AQAJAAAA8D/Rd76k1sv04NCrsOEDfCzhb2mu0xWvNYZrobmeAlUQjWa+ciN6Bnc6eaCl22aLRwLMlKcqscRfky6oBVY5yjvhbKswtvjhlw3Kvw17z/1okesT9qPglYZK73wDU5k0K4WT1FuUhnE+6qPKHUMAABo9eQ5G1g4bSzXEDQy/n6SQey3hoElS2GDzGmMcxfDY0hUO1H/cYZukG/EZBsVDE3a9athfpfSHWr+KhA3scELqyT1Nys8Uoea1zyjTO2eA/Ht5Gh9bYVVec2RjD1eXO/q8usCde+cGPlLEX1Ilu4cYyIpCCf/De0B7eArEjXmTAQ==|tkp:Bk9SR8a888WNZA Coincidentally, one of the pics is a good shot of the compression ratio page. If you are not familiar with it check out the 1960 NASCAR race for six cylinder compacts at Daytona? Seven slant sixes entered and they finished 1-7.

Hey Howard, it came out of a '75 Plymouth Duster, but I don't know if it was the original engine to that car. I had one guy on the ForAbodies forum tell me it was a hydraulic lifter engine, but it is not~ it is solid lifters.

Thank you Arnold, just ordered it;) I'm definitely going to fool with it, just need to find a machine shop, hopefully neary. The last MS has built 5 engines for me, but I've never inquired about anything other than an "overhaul". This is new to me

Just a few engine pics for your viewing pleasure;) have to go trim some trees, darned chores!;)

There's no real ridge, just carbon. In the past if someone did the .030 over, should be pretty clean.

My friend asked me what's my budget~ basic answer, the engine will be a street runner, going to car get togethers, just need it to run, and above all, engine compartment I want to a awesome like all my other builds. I don't need to go crazy and for me, unnecessary machining, high dollar parts other than a decent cam would be nice.

Above all as far as compression, just like to up it from what stock was/is. I would think in the mid 70s they were big into emission and lower compression was a thing?

The other day I didn't have a place to sit, so I sat in my '67 Mustang, I am working on installing a manual transmission in my Dart~ I think it's a must have to maintain that look and function. Our grandkids don't quite understand what the metal rod is for sticking out of the floorboard.

I'd be cautious given that gas octane ain't what it used to be.

Yes, has crossed my mind! Another thing I read is that the new head gaskets for the 225 is quite thick vs the original metal gasket. So if one takes off so many thousandths off the head, it's negated by the head gasket somewhat. Sometimes I just soon leave well enough alone, put new rings(hone it), check main bearings, but do have the block boiled as it's pretty rusty, and a valve job of course~ shave the head and call it a day. Just voicing;)

Looks like your quote got tangled with my reply! Don't know if it is still true or not but for gasket sets there were always two part numbers for the same engine, AC and non-AC, if you ordered a gasket set for an air conditioned car it would come with a steel shim head gasket, that is the way Chrysler sent them out.

Hi, getting ready for the hurricane:( going to be really close to us, hopefully it will just fizzle out.

I got my super six intake (2 barrel) and other parts last evening~ if I it had been closer, would have bought the entire engine.

All looks good, no cracks, yes a little shabby looking, but it'll clean up. Not sure If I'll be going with this carburetor, but I can put a kit in it, make it pretty and see how it goes, but that's a long ways off. I'm just happy to have the thing:bananatool:

I'll eventually have the flywheel machined? now I have two bell housings! lol I still have a bunch of stuff to have blasted, and I'll have the bell housings done then. Though I did get the throwout arm, I'll be going with a hydraulic clutch.

Ok, Got to go out and prepare for the hurricane~

Hope you are prepared for Beryl. Hope you don't have any flooding there, looks like a lot of rain coming for your area.
Hope you don't mind, I copied your valve trane parts organizer. I too had a bunch of scrap boards. IMG_E5771.JPG
