Anyone have any luck installing a t90 trans in a 1966 cj5 with Buick engine?

we just put the engine -trans assembly on frame and although all the holes line up it appears the engine slopes down and the steering drag link hits the bellhousing when trying a left turn.

I’m using the standard t90 crossmember and mounts.. also used the Novak adapter kit with longer trans input shaft…

any ideas? Readjust steering so drag link is more forward? I’m open to any comments.

Entire driveline must shift to the passenger side ( usually around 3/4") with a v6, what are you using for engine mounts?

Engine, steering and frame all came together as one unit. Only difference is the adapter and t90…

Is it a factory bellhousing or a BOP car bellhousing? Can you post a picture of where it is hitting? Also check the engine mounts as they are side specific and can shift the engine some.

I had a T90 behind my 225 for many years. Used the thick adapter and the long T90J input shaft, and the T90 crossmember. Didn't have any of the problems you described. Mine is totally stock 1970 from the bellhousing forward.

Is the steering box a 4cly box? My 4.3 did that it's mounted in the same position as a 225 would be.

You'll need to bend the drag link to shorten it and re key the Pitman arm a tooth.

You will also need to redrill the crossmember to move it 3/4 to 1" off the jeep centerline.
That also means the torque arm mount won't work.

You can bolt a Buick 225 to a short shaft T90 a or c by using a passenger car bellhousing. There is a bellhousing out there with tapped holes for a GM 4 spd pattern, and un-threaded holes that match the T90 pattern. Just tap the threads.
When you use this with the V6 in the original location, you have the transmission too far forward for the floor plates, or if you mount the trans in the “original” position, the engine is pushed into the firewall.
You really need the long T90j input shaft and length of the adapter to make things fit correctly.
Most folks rebuild a dead T86 with T90 guts and it all bolts together using the factory V6 bellhousing w/iron spacer. Your Novak parts essentially replicate this, only you use a T90 case.

Is this one a factory V6 installation?

The drag link for the V6 is shorter than the F134. The straight ahead steering position of the gearbox arm is different. If the steering assembly is originally from a 4 cylinder Jeep that could be your issue.

I used the long input shaft and Novak adapter..everything should be in the correct location…yes it is factory v6 install, just came without a transmission…I had a t90 so here I am..all tied together ..drive shafts fit properly..

the drag link that came with Jeep was cut in half so I used one I had on hand…it is 25.5” long…I think I need the shorter version…I’ll find one, make some adjustments and advise.
