    Hi all!
I just want to take a moment first, and say thanks. I’m new to this group and a returning Jeep enthusiast after several years. My first was a ‘55 M170. I appreciate all the great input, and detailed responses l’ve gotten from my posts. Thank you all!

Back to the matter at hand. I recently acquired a ‘64 cj5, and am the third owner. The previous did a pretty good job of carrying the torch from the original, whom used the jeep to “bring her grandkids to school”.

Anyway, the second owner seems to have cared for the jeep since his ownership, but more on that later. I have a couple basic queries. For one, what were the factory color options for 1964? Mine has been rattle can painted in a camouflage pattern, and is peeling to reveal a light blue to match the engine compartment.

Secondly, what was the axle gear ratio in ‘64? Options? Any other specific information to the ‘64 model year would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!!!

Thank you! According to the chart, and paint chip identification, mine is Sierra Blue.

Should be a tag on the differential cover showing the axle ratio.

Standard for '64 was I believe 4.27, with 5.38 being optional.

Nice! I love it! I also have the corresponding utility trailer to match the jeep, and plan on painting both back to the original Sierra blue. Thanks for sharing!

64 would be 4.27 and t-90c 5.38 became the option with the changeover to t-90c around 63

I thought the 64's with 15" wheels were 4:27 and the 16" wheels were 5:38 axels. My 64 Tux had 4:27 axels in it. Rick

I'll have to check on my 64. I'm pretty sure it has 4.27's though.
The M38A1's have 5.38's. I could tell the difference when I was driving it. Body's off right now and working on 11" brakes. It was originally President's Red. Might go back with Spruce Tip Green. I do like those blues. though.
