Which Pressure Plate

Hello guys
I am needing to buy a 225 V6 pressure plate. I have the 10 1/2" clutch already. There seems to be two styles, the 3 fork or diaphragm? type. Which would you prefer? what brand?

 

I prefer the diaphragm style. These often have higher clamping force, and lighter pedal feel. They also perform better at high rpm, though that doesn’t apply to our Jeeps.

Unless it’s a modern center force design I disagree.
The 3 finger designs traditionally have greater clamping force.
That said unless your plowing or skidding with your Jeep I certainly do recommend installing a diaphragm type cover plate assembly. Yes normally a much lighter pedal feel. The 3 finger types can be found with 6, 9 or 12 coil springs. The 3 finger cover plates with 12 coils are extremely stiff.
I’m running this NOS OEM Borg Beck with a Borg Warner driven disk.

That has always been my opinion also. The difference in pedal pressure can be a LOT more with the 3 finger (Borg and Beck) versus the
diaphragm for similar performance clutches. The operative phrase being "can be". The last 11" Hays diaphragm I had in the 3B you didn't leave in gear at stoplights. The McLeod twin disc (but also diaphragm) that replaced it reduced that pedal effort at least by a third, maybe more.

 

Due to to their potential for extreme plate pressure with their 3 finger design; Borg Beck became a common name applied to virtually all makes of 3 finger cover assemblies. But that is really not the case.
Dauntless CJ’s prior to 1970!we’re all using the Borg Beck diaphragm clutches as shown here.

In 1970-71 the Dauntless Cj’s became equipped with a 9 spring version of their famous 3 finger design. And yes it had somewhat greater plate pressure than their earlier diaphragms.
